All 30 MLB teams are busy putting together their 2021 roster to make a run at a World Series title. Every team’s future is bright in mid-January but only one team from each league will get the chance to play in this season’s Fall Classic.
Most online sportsbooks have already weighed in on the 2021 campaign with a set of MLB betting futures covering both the American and National League pennant race as well as odds to win the 2021 World Series.
Starting out in the AL, here is a deeper look at the top contenders on the board to win this league’s title.
Every discussion for this MLB future has to start with the New York Yankees as perennial favorites to win the AL Pennant. Heading into this season, they are the clear favorites at +250. The Yankees appear to have a clear path to winning the AL East with Tampa Bay expected to take a slight step backwards this season.
2021 MLB World Series Futures Odds
The Yankees Improve the Rotation
The New York Yankees just added former Cy Young starter Cory Kluber to its rotation to cement its position at the top of the list.
The top value team on the list could be the Chicago White Sox as +500 second-favorites. Coming off a very productive season that resulted in a playoff appearance with 35 wins in 60 games, Chicago appears ready to take that next step.
The Minnesota Twins is another team that could fall back a bit in the competitive AL Central. Cleveland could be a bit overhyped based on its starting rotation. The White Sox offer more balance throughout the lineup with a good mix of seasoned veterans and up and coming MLB All-Stars.
Bolstering the starting rotation and finding a viable designated hitter are two concerns that still need to be resolved. However, if everything does come together ahead of opening day, Chicago could easily be the team to beat in the AL Pennant race.
AL West Is a Wide Open Race
The AL West is another wide-open division race that is up for grabs this season. While Houston has been the dominant team in the past, it could be Oakland’s turn to take the Astros’ place as a +850 third-favorite to win the AL Pennant.
The Athletics won the AL West last season at 36-24 and they should be able to pick up where they left off. They still have some work to do during the offseason to bring back a few of the key players behind last season’s division title run.
Assuming that Oakland can keep most of last season’s roster intact, the value in its +850 odds is rather high as well. Staying at the top of the AL West will still be a challenge but the current third-place standing in the AL futures list is not a fluke.
