The Carolina Panthers pulled off a huge win in week 7 and are looking to have the same success this week. After beating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 21-3, they’ll now head on the road to face the Atlanta Falcons. PJ Walker has been named the permanent starting quarterback for the team. This is huge news as he’s coming off an incredible game against Tampa Bay.
The Atlanta Falcons are coming off a brutal loss to the Cincinnati Bengals last week. After Joe Burrow picked apart their defense last week, they’ll look to bounce back now. The good news is that RB Christian McCaffrey no longer plays for the Panthers. That’s at least one weapon they won’t have to worry about.

Panthers vs. Falcons Preview, Trends and Stats
Although they’re coming off a big win over the Buccaneers, the Panthers are still underdogs in this game. The spread isn’t very large, but it’s still 4.5-points, so there’s a bit of wiggle room. As a team, the Panthers have averaged 17.7 points per game. They rank 26th in the NFL in this category.
Their defense is slightly concerning here as well, especially against Atlanta’s offense. On average, they’re giving up 21.3 points per game. They did a great job against the Buccaneers, but we don’t think they’ll have the same performance.
With Walker named as the starting quarterback, the Panthers offense should do a bit better. He passed for 177 yards last week and two touchdowns, a strong performance. Perhaps the best part is that he didn’t turn the ball over.
The Atlanta Falcons defense had a tough time against Joe Burrow and the Bengals last week. They ended up losing 35-17 and their record fell to 3-4 on the season. They have a 2-1 record at home and can get back to .500 with a win here.
Currently, the NFC South is wide open and the Falcons are tied for first in the division. With the way the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have performed, it’s plausible the Falcons could win the division. However, it all starts with a win over the Carolina Panthers this weekend.
Panthers vs. Falcons Picks
Over the last three games between these teams, the Atlanta Falcons are 2-1 against the spread. The Falcons had a tough game against the Bengals, but we think they’ll bounce back in week 8.
The Panthers had a big win last week, but we think it says more about the struggles Tampa Bay are having. Because of this, we’ll take the Falcons to cover the point spread at -4.5 over the Carolina Panthers this week.
Final Score: 22-14 (Falcons)
EXTRA POINTS
1. The Atlanta Falcons have gone 6-1 against the spread in their last seven games.
2. The total has gone under in 13 of Atlanta’s last 18 games against Carolina.
3. The Falcons are 10-4 against the spread in their last 14 home games against Carolina.
Best Bet: Falcons -4.5 (-110) and Under 41.5 (-110)
