PGA Matchups: Head-to-Head Golf Betting at HRWager

PGA betting has exploded in recent years.

A large part of that is because of daily fantasy golf, which has attracted thousands of sports fans and made betting on golf more popular with online sportsbooks like HRWager.

A lot of US bookies don’t even offer PGA matchup betting markets (head-to-head), despite it being a popular PGA bet.

HRWager not only offers full tournament match-up bets between two golfers, but they also offer PGA match-up bets on every round (1-4), giving you lots of opportunities to win.

What Is a PGA Head-to-Head Bet?

Typically, when you bet on a PGA tournament, you’re betting on a golfer to win the tournament against the rest of the field. With hundreds of golfers in the field, it’s tough to win.

The payout odds reflect the difficulty of winning, but that doesn’t help our winning percentage.

One of the easiest PGA betting markets to handicap are the head-to-head markets.

Here’s an example of this type of golf bet:

Phil Mickelson (-150) vs. Tiger Woods (+110)

These head-to-head bets will have higher juice than a traditional straight bet, however, it’s still easy to overcome the extra vig and turn a consistent profit betting these H2H markets.

In the example above, you select one golfer and that golfer simply has to have a better score at the end of the tournament than the opponent. If Mickelson finishes at –5 and Woods finishes at –3 in a tournament, then bets on Mickelson to win the PGA match-up bet would cash.

If both players finish with the same score (tie), then the bet is a push and stakes are returned.

As mentioned earlier in the article, HRWager also offers this type of betting market for a single round of a PGA tournament. If you bet on Mickelson to win Round 1 against Woods, then he needs to have a higher score than Woods at the conclusion of the opening round only.

Here’s another example of a PGA head-to-head bet, but this time with a handicap:

Phil Mickelson –1.5 (-120) vs. Tiger Woods +1.5 (-120)

In this example, there’s now a handicap. If you bet on Mickelson at –1.5 strokes, it simply means he has to beat Tiger’s score by –1.5 strokes. If Mickelson finishes at –5 and Woods finishes at –3 like in our first example, bettors that bet on Mickelson would still win because he won by two strokes.

However, if Mickelson finishes at –4 and Woods finishes at –3, then wagers on Woods +1.5 would cash because Mickelson only won by 1 stroke and didn’t cover the handicap.
