We’re entering matchweek 4 of the Premier League season and there have been some surprising starts.
Liverpool (0-2-1) are winless and sit 16th on the table with two points. Manchester United (1-0-2) opened the season with two losses against Brighton (2-1) and Brentford (4-0), but just defeated Liverpool (2-1).
Seven teams haven’t lost a game yet, including Leeds, Brighton, Newcastle and Fulham.
Here are the best bets for Premier League matchweek 4 games being played this weekend.
Southampton vs. Manchester United Prediction
When: Saturday, August 27th 2022 at 7:30 AM ET
Where: St Mary’s Stadium
Manchester United (1-0-2) won 2-1 against Liverpool on Monday to get in the win column. Jaden Sancho opened the scoring in the 16th minute and Marcus Rashford scored in the 53rd minute.
United had a much better performance than they did in their opening two matches.
Southampton (1-1-1) are coming off a 2-1 victory against Leicester. They’ve played one match at home, which ended in a 2-2 draw against Leeds. United have played one away match, losing 4-0 to Brentford.
I don’t trust Man Utd to pick up three points at St Mary’s in the early match on Saturday.
With that being said, the best bet is on both teams to score. Both teams have struggled defensively. Only Leicester have conceded more goals (8) than Manchester United and Southampton (7).
The last two head-to-head matches have ended in 1-1 draws.
Best Bet: Both Teams to Score (-175)
Brentford vs. Everton Prediction
When: Saturday, August 27th 2022 at 10:00 AM ET
Where: Gtech Community Stadium
Brentford (1-1-1) suffered a 3-2 loss to Fulham last time out after conceding a last minute goal. They went down 2-0 in the match, fought back, but then Aleksander Mitrovic scored during stoppage time.
Everton (0-1-2) are winless and will likely be fighting relegation this season. They’ve kept matches close, but they lost to Chelsea (1-0) and Aston Villa (2-1) before drawing against Nottingham Forest (1-1).
The big difference in this match is going to be the offense. Everton have struggled to score goals early in the season. They rank 16th with two goals scored, while Brentford rank 3rd with eight goals scored.
Brentford went 2-0 against Everton last season in the Premier League. Everton won an FA Cup match against Brentford last year. Bentford’s lone home match ended in a 4-0 win against Man Utd.
Everton may keep things closer than that, but Brentford will find a way to get back in the win column.
Best Bet: Brentford to Win (+105)
Manchester City vs. Crystal Palace Prediction
When: Saturday, August 27th 2022 at 10:00 AM ET
Where: City of Manchester Stadium
Manchester City (2-1-0) are undefeated and sit in 2nd place on the table. Crystal Palace (1-1-1) are 9th on the table. City come into this match as huge favorites at home against Palace.
Man City opened the season on fire, defeating West Ham (2-0) and Bournemouth (4-0). However, they came back down to earth with a 3-3 draw against Newcastle in their last match.
Crystal Palacelost 2-0 to Arsenal, had a 1-1 draw against Liverpool and are coming off a 3-1 win against Aston Villa. The schedule has been tough and their opponent this weekend won’t change that.
However, Palace have played well against City in recent years. Last season, Palace was the only team to keep two clean sheets against City. They won 2-0 away and played to a 0-0 draw at home.
I don’t expect them to win on Saturday, but they’ll keep things close. Since 2018, these two teams have played eight teams in the top-flight and City have only won one match by more than two goals.
I’m going to back Crystal Palace on the Asian handicap.
Best Bet: Crystal Palace +2.5 AH (-175)
Nottingham Forest vs. Tottenham Prediction
When: Sunday, August 28th 2022 at 11:30 AM ET
Where: City Ground
Nottingham Forest (1-1-1) lost their opener to Newcastle (2-0), but have settled in a bit. They defeated West Ham (1-0) and played to a 1-1 draw against Everton last time out.
Tottenham (2-1-0) are undefeated with wins against Southampton (4-1) and Wolverhampton (1-0). They also have a draw against Chelsea (2-2). Tottenham rank 4th in goals scored (7).
Both teams rank 3rd in goals conceded (3). This has the makings of a defensive battle. Tottenham went 9-4-6 last season in away matches and they’re 0-1-0 this season.
Tottenham have a good chance to pick up a win, but it likely won’t come easy.
My best bet for this match on Sunday is under 2.5 goals, which we’re getting at plus money.
Best Bet: Under 2.5 Goals (+110)
