It will be the most-watched programming on television for the entire year. Super Bowl LV kicks off Sunday, February 7, and more than a few viewers will be watching for reasons other than the action that takes place on the field between the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Kiss Land
Back in the day also known as 2013, The Weeknd released his first album, Kiss Land. The first track from that album was the title track. It’s not the type of track that would typically open a show, Super Bowl or not.
The second single released from the album was “Belong to the World.” It has a two-minute-plus intro which could be shortened, but it is probably not quite driving enough to open up a show of the magnitude of a Super Bowl.
The current odds for the first song at Sunday’s halftime show do not include any songs from the Weeknd’s first album.
The Grammy
In 2016, the Weeknd won his first Grammy for his 2015 release Beauty Behind the Madness. It won the Best Urban Contemporary Album while also being nominated for the Album of the Year.
The album features a number of tracks that are among the Weeknd’s most popular songs. “The Hills” is a longshot to open the show at +1100. It’s got a great intro, but the song’s tempo is not quite a Super Bowl opener.
“Can’t Feel My Face” was another popular track off this album. It’s got a great hook and a funky beat, but it takes about 30 seconds or so to get to it. In a show that will likely feature somewhere between 12 to 15 minutes of music, it doesn’t seem likely that a song with a 30-second-plus intro is going to start things off.
“Can’t Feel My Face” is given +500 odds to be played first, but expect a trimmed down version to be played later in the set list.

After Hours
The Weeknd released After Hours in 2020, his first new album in four years. Three tracks from the album are among its biggest hits and among the favorites to be played first during Sunday’s halftime show.
“Blinding Lights” was the first single released from the album late in 2019. It, along with “In Your Eyes” is both priced at +400 to be No. 1 on the set list. “Save Your Tears,” also from the album, checks in at +650.
With his world tour in support of After Hours delayed until this year, you can bet The Weeknd will play all three of the major hits. The question is when. The other thing to consider is the song “Pray for Me” off the Black Panther soundtrack. The song is given +450 odds to open the show.
Musicians usually like to open the show with something dramatic, but well-known to the audience. That captures their attention. Fans will hear a few hits and then the closer is normally a huge hit.
With the new album having been out almost a year, fans know it well. The safe bet is “In Your Eyes” but bettors can find value in the hit “Can’t Feel My Face” at +500. It’s catchy and well-known outside of the band’s circle of fans.
The longshot bet would be on “The Hills” with its great intro. It doesn’t have the kind of tempo you normally hear in a first song, but it’s possible it rolls into another song quickly as part of a medley.
