It wasn’t a great week for underdogs in Week 6 of NFL play. Moneyline favorites went 9-4 overall, but that means that four of them won. The biggest was, of course, Tennessee’s Monday night victory over Buffalo.
In Week 7, there are a number of teams facing double-digit point spreads. That means they are big underdogs on the moneyline. There has to be a few more underdogs out there that can pull out a win. Here are the top three NFL Week 7 moneyline underdog picks.
Detroit Lions vs. Los Angeles Rams Week 7
Yes, it will be the biggest upset of the season. The Detroit Lions have no business even hanging around the Los Angeles Rams. The big deal here, of course, is the two teams and their swapping of quarterbacks in the offseason.
Jared Goff was traded to Detroit and Matthew Stafford went from the Motor City to LA. Stafford and the Rams are enjoying a great start. They are 5-1 and a clear favorite to reach the playoffs. The offense averages nearly 30 points per game and is much more explosive with Stafford under center.
Goff, on the other hand, is in a situation where his team just isn’t very good. The Lions are winless at 0-6 and the offense is 27th in the league in total offense (321 ypg). Under first-year head coach Dan Campbell, this Detroit team will fight. They just don’t have the roster.
But, the beauty of the NFL is that the worst team in the league can beat the best on any given Sunday. With the Lions a +705 underdog, we’re taking a shot on the biggest upset of the season.
Best Moneyline Pick: LIONS +705
Indianapolis Colts vs. San Francisco 49ers Week 7
The Colts travel to San Francisco fresh off a win last week. It’s not that big a deal though as they beat Houston 31-3. They should have beat Houston.
The 49ers opened the season with two wins, but then the Niners fell apart and have lost three straight games. San Francisco was off last week, which you would think gives them an advantage. Not necessarily.
Since 2014, the 49ers are just 9-18 straight up in games where they have had a rest advantage over their opponent. This is a must-win game for San Francisco, but it’s a spot where they don’t play well.
Best Moneyline Pick: COLTS +170
Kansas City Chiefs vs. Tennessee Titans Week 7
For a second consecutive week, the Tennessee Titans are a home underdog. This week, it’s Kansas City in a rematch of the 2019 season’s AFC title game. Neither one of these defenses is very good though the Chiefs did hold Washington to just 13 points last week.
Kansas City will have a tough time slowing down Titans RB Derrick Henry who had 188 yards against the Chiefs in a 2019 regular season game. Tennessee is 4-1 straight up in its last five games. You just have to love the home underdog.
Best Moneyline Pick: TITANS +195
