The NFL heads into preseason Week 2 with plenty of questions to answer. Who will start at quarterback in Jacksonville, for instance? Or in New Orleans? Players are still jockeying for a position on the final 53- man rosters which are due to the league office on August 31.
Betting the NFL preseason can sometimes be a toss-up, but there are some interesting trends that can lead to some winnings. Take Baltimore under John Harbaugh as an example. The Baltimore Ravens have won 18 straight preseason games. They are 38-12 SU overall under Harbaugh.
That’s why we will not take Carolina, a three-point home underdog, against the Ravens this week. However, there are some other solid underdog picks in the NFL preseason Week 2. Read our underdogs betting guide if you’re new to sports betting.
New England Patriots vs. Philadelphia Eagles Picks
Patriots vs. Eagles Betting Report
There is plenty of uncertainty when playing an NFL preseason game. Compounding that uncertainty is when a team from one conference plays a team from another. Generally, the two teams do not play each other that often resulting in a lack of familiarity for coaching staffs.
That lack of familiarity is even truer in the preseason where the guys that take most of the snaps don’t have much NFL game tape. Because the teams playing each other – the Patriots and Eagles in this case – don’t face each other very often, there is more value on betting the underdog.
In preseason games with an AFC opponent facing an NFC opponent, the underdog is 458-321-3 ATS since 2004. Here, the Eagles are a one-point underdog playing at home. Additionally, it’s also profitable to fade New England head coach Bill Belichick in the preseason. He is 29-32-4 ATS in career preseason games.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Arizona Cardinals Picks
Chiefs vs. Cardinals Betting Report
If you didn’t thoroughly read the Patriots-Eagles pick, here it is again. When an AFC team plays an NFC team in the preseason, there is value on the underdog because of a general lack of familiarity between the two teams.
This is an advantage for an underdog, especially one that is playing in the comforts of home like the Arizona Cardinals will do on Friday night. Yes, their opponent is Kansas City, but the Chiefs aren’t going to be playing all of their superstars.
Plus, here’s another doozy. Like Belichick, the Chiefs’ Andy Reid is not at his best in preseason games. He is just 30-35-1 ATS in preseason games during his career.

Denver Broncos vs. Seattle Seahawks Picks
Broncos vs. Seahawks Betting Report
Okay, not to beat a dead horse, but it’s the whole AFC-NFC thing going again here with an added twist. While the Ravens’ Harbaugh may be the king of preseason coaches, Seattle’s Pete Carroll isn’t all that far behind.
In his decade of coaching the Seahawks, Carroll is 25-15-1 ATS in preseason games. What’s even more impressive is that he went 0-3-1 ATS in his first season. Since then, Carroll’s Seahawks are 25-11 ATS, a 69.4 percent winning percentage.
The Seahawks won’t play their starters all that much, but they will surely keep this one close as a one- point home underdog.
