What Does BTTS Mean in Betting?

BTTS in sports stands for “both teams to score.” This is a popular bet in soccer where the scoring is typically very low. The chance of at least one team not scoring in a match is high.

BTTS wagers in soccer only include normal time in a match. A match that ends 1-0 in normal time but ends up 1-1 after the extra time is played is still a losing BTTS bet.

Bettors looking to capitalize on BTTS wagers can look for teams with a certain style of play that is more conducive to scoring. For example the 2019-20 Tottenham club in the English Premier League returned winning BTTS bets 66 percent of the time.

BTTS Options

The BTTS option for a match is not the only BTTS bet available. There are a number of others including wagering on individual halves and combining the BTTS bet with another in a parlay.

Bettors can wager on both teams to score in the first half, second half, or to score in both halves. In addition, bettors can then parlay BTTS options with other bets.

Soccer Predictions

For example, a bettor pairs the match BTTS with the Over 2.5 goals. A winning bet is one where both teams score at least one goal and there are a total of three or more goals scored in the match.

Another common parlay, or accumulator, bet is to combine BTTS with a team to win. BTTS/Liverpool to Win. A winning bet is one in which Liverpool is victorious with a final score of 2-1. Both teams must score and Liverpool must win.

If either leg of a parlay loses, the entire bet loses.

BTTS NHL Betting

Betting on both teams to score is popular in soccer, but that isn’t the only sport where you will find action.

Betting BTTS is also alive and well in NHL hockey. Bettors can find markets at many of the major sportsbooks.

The issue in betting BTTS in hockey is that both teams usually do score in an NHL game. Sportsbooks, of course, set odds accordingly and betting “Yes” typically comes with odds that just do not make it worth betting.

NHL Predictions

There are some areas though where bettors can find value. One prop bet is also called Both Teams to Score but you can wager on the amount of goals scored. For example, you can bet on BTTS 2 or More Goals where the odds might be -120.

In this case, you would need each team to score at least two goals. A final score – in regulation play – of 2-2, 3-2, or even 6-5 would all be winners.

Bettors can also find value in betting BTTS on individual periods. The odds tip more favorably in the “No” direction as teams often do go scoreless in a 20-minute period.

The third period is typically the highest scoring period. This is often the time when teams will pull their goalie and go with an empty net in an attempt to tie a game.
