As the college football offseason moves into mid-June, betting props and futures for the 2021 campaign continue to draw early action at online sportsbooks everywhere.
Projecting the upcoming college season out even further, betting odds have already been posted for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Spencer Rattler Favored to Go First Overall in 2022
The short list of betting prospects has 10 prominent college players on the board. Spencer Rattler is the clear favorite at +140.
The Oklahoma Sooners’ starting quarterback will definitely be in the public eye this season. Given the fact that five different quarterbacks came off the board in the opening round of this year’s NFL Draft, Rattler is already considered to be the biggest prize in this year’s college player pool.
His 2020 stats paint a bright picture for the upcoming season. As a freshman, he threw for 3,031 yards and 28 touchdowns against just seven interceptions over the course of a shortened nine- game season. Rattler saved his best for last by completing 14-of-23 passes for 247 yards and three touchdown throws in a 55-20 rout over Florida in the Cotton Bowl.
Top Betting Value in the Top 5
Moving down the board a bit, Malik Willis could be the best value at +750 odds. Playing for the Liberty Flames will work against his chances to come off the board first. However, Willis put his team on the national map last season because of his excellent play at the quarterback position.
The good news is that the hype will be high playing for an exciting Mid-Major program. His past experience at Auburn is another big plus. His smaller size at 6-foot-1, 215 lbs. does drain some value from the longer odds but Malik’s overall skill set will appeal to more than a few NFL teams in the market for a future franchise quarterback.
Living up to the hype is the key to cashing this betting ticket. Willis has pro skills and the ability to garner quite a bit of attention this season. He would still have to exceed his lofty expectations to move into the top of the list but this is possible if everything goes his way in the 2021 season.
One Longshot to Consider
Following Willis, the betting odds quickly expand in the bottom half of this list. I am going with Georgia quarterback JT Daniels as my top-valued longshot in this NFL player prop bet. At +1800, he will be under center for a high-profile SEC program that has serious aspirations for winning a national title this season.
Daniels saw quite a bit of action in the 2018 season with the USC Trojans by passing for 2,672 yards and 14 touchdowns. After deciding to return to Georgia coming off a strong finish to the 2020 season, JT gives his team something to build on. A few strong starts as the end of the year also helped to ease concerns over a past knee injury.
He has long odds to be the No. 1 overall pick in 2022 for a reason. Yet, he is the best of the rest in my book at this point of the offseason.
