Orioles Look to Build Momentum as Giants Come to Town
The Baltimore Orioles are set to kick off their final homestand of the season with a critical three-game series against the San Francisco Giants starting Tuesday. With just two weeks left in the regular season, the Orioles (84-66) are three games behind the New York Yankees in the highly competitive American League East. After losing six of their last eight games, Baltimore is eager to find consistency and reignite their chances of contending for the division title.
Despite a tough loss to the Detroit Tigers in the finale of their last series, Orioles’ catcher Adley Rutschman remains confident in his team’s resilience.
“I think everyone here has got faith that we have the ability to do great things,” said Rutschman, expressing optimism that the Orioles can still make a run at the division title.
Orioles Need Offensive Spark
Manager Brandon Hyde stressed the importance of the Orioles’ offense finding its rhythm.
“We’ve just got to get going offensively,” Hyde said. “When we’re having opportunities, we’re not cashing them in.”
The upcoming six-game homestand, which includes a pivotal three-game series against the Yankees next week, presents a golden opportunity for Baltimore to close the gap in the standings and secure their spot in the postseason.
Giants Aim to Play Spoiler
Meanwhile, the San Francisco Giants (72-78) are in the midst of a nine-game road trip and have been struggling, losing four straight games and five of their last six. After being swept by the San Diego Padres, the Giants are looking to rebound and potentially play spoiler to the Orioles’ postseason hopes.
Despite their recent woes, Giants manager Bob Melvin found a bright spot in Heliot Ramos, who hit an impressive home run into McCovey Cove on Sunday.
“It tied the game, so it was even better at the time,” Melvin said of Ramos’ milestone.
Pitching Matchup
Baltimore will send Albert Suarez (8-5, 3.39 ERA) to the mound. Suarez has been solid in his last five starts, going 3-1 with a 3.41 ERA. In his previous outing, Suarez held the Boston Red Sox to one run over six innings. Having pitched for the Giants earlier in his career, Suarez knows the San Francisco lineup well and has been particularly effective against National League opponents this season, posting a 3-2 record with a 4.32 ERA.
For the Giants, left-hander Blake Snell (3-3, 3.52 ERA) will get the start. Snell, who hasn’t taken a loss since April, has been limited by injuries this season. He allowed one run in five innings in his last start against the Milwaukee Brewers. While Snell has faced Baltimore numerous times during his career, primarily as a member of the Tampa Bay Rays, he holds a 3-2 record with a 4.35 ERA against the Orioles.

Looking Ahead
Both teams are desperate for wins, but for different reasons. The Orioles need to capitalize on their final homestand to stay alive in the AL East race and secure a spot in the playoffs. Meanwhile, the Giants, who have fallen out of contention, are looking to salvage their season and spoil Baltimore’s postseason push.
With Suarez and Snell on the mound, the series opener promises to be a tight contest. The Orioles will look to ignite their offense and feed off the energy of their home crowd, while the Giants hope to snap their losing streak and finish the season on a high note. Both teams have plenty to prove as the regular season winds down.
