Garrett Crochet’s Performance
“It’s something that we were searching for, obviously,” said left-hander Garrett Crochet, who pitched seven innings, allowing one run on three hits and a walk, while striking out eight. Crochet’s stellar performance was instrumental in securing the win.
Overcoming Challenges
Even though Chicago was down a man, they won. Eloy Jimenez, a designated hitter and outfielder, missed his second consecutive game on Sunday because of a strained left adductor.
Jimenez’s Recovery
White Sox director Pedro Grifol detailed that Jimenez is everyday. On Tuesday, Jimenez himself stated that he is doing well despite continuing treatment and working in the batting cage.
Contributions from Other Players
Due to Jimenez being out, Gavin Sheets has been receiving increased opportunities to bat. On Tuesday, Sheets scored the game’s opening run by hitting a single with an RBI. In addition, Luis Robert Jr. snapped his 0-for-12 slump by hitting a double in the eighth inning, which helped create the winning run.
Atlanta Braves’ Efforts
The Braves made the White Sox work hard for their first win. Although Atlanta managed only five hits, they forced White Sox reliever Michael Kopech to throw 39 pitches in securing a five-out save.
Key Braves Players
With two outs in the ninth inning, Orlando Arcia and Michael Harris II reached base to put the potential tying and winning runs on base. Assigned hitter Marcell Ozuna stretched out his hitting streak to four games with a couple of solo homers, following a 0-for-5 execution with two strikeouts in the season opener against Philadelphia.
“He’s not old yet. He’s right in the prime of his career, I feel,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said of the 33-year-old Ozuna. “He’s been swinging that bat pretty good here the last few days, too.”
Weather Conditions and Series Opener
Despite rainy, wet, and windy weather in Chicago this week, the Braves dominated with a 9-0 victory in Monday’s series opener. Snitker indicated that the weather wouldn’t pose a significant issue for the team during this series or in the future.
“I think if you’re out there running around and your juices are flowing, it [isn’t] all that bad,” he said on Tuesday.
