Pistons Look to Extend Streak While Hawks Try to Find Consistency

The Detroit Pistons are surging, and they’ll aim to win their sixth straight game when they visit the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday.

Detroit, currently sixth in the Eastern Conference, holds a four-game lead over Atlanta and can further distance itself in the standings. Meanwhile, the Hawks are still adjusting to recent trade acquisitions as they try to find rhythm heading into the final stretch of the season.

Pistons Hitting Their Stride

Detroit’s 125-110 win over San Antonio on Friday improved its road record to 16-13 and continued its strong turnaround from last season’s struggles. Head coach J.B. Bickerstaff attributes the success to the foundation laid in previous years but emphasizes that there’s still room for growth.

“We’re not a finished product,” Bickerstaff said. “We’ll continue to develop and get better and learn how each player’s individual strengths fit together.”

The Pistons have found a reliable core, led by Cade Cunningham (25.4 points, 9.5 assists per game) and Jalen Duren (11 points, 10.3 rebounds per game). Malik Beasley (16.5 points per game) and Tobias Harris (13.6 points, 5.9 rebounds per game) have provided veteran stability.

Jaden Ivey remains out with a lower leg injury and is expected to miss at least another month.

“This group of guys is coming together,” Bickerstaff said. “They believe in one another; they trust in one another, and they want to get better because it’s the best thing for this group.”

Hawks Struggling to Adjust After Trades

Atlanta enters the game following a 114-108 loss to Orlando on Thursday, where it shot just 39 percent from the floor and blew a 19-point lead.

The Hawks are still adjusting after acquiring Georges Niang, Caris LeVert, and Terance Mann at the trade deadline. While all three have contributed, head coach Quin Snyder admits that learning a new system midseason presents challenges.

“It’s hard when you’re learning new plays,” Snyder said. “All of those situations can be a lot to absorb, and I think all three of those guys have embraced that and are doing really well trying to get familiarity and then compete at the same time.”

One bright spot for Atlanta has been rookie Zaccharie Risacher, who recorded his first career double-double on Thursday, setting a personal best with 12 rebounds. The first-round pick is averaging 11.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game and continues to gain confidence.

“He’s confident and aggressive in transition,” Snyder said. “He’s going to continue to get better.”
