Hawks Eye Back-to-Back Wins vs. Injury-Riddled Pacers
Meeting for the second time in three days, the Atlanta Hawks will look to sweep their two-game set with the visiting Indiana Pacers on Saturday night.
Hawks Seeking Momentum
Atlanta used a 38-point fourth quarter on Thursday to secure a 124-118 win over the Pacers, marking its first victory against Indiana since March 2023. The Hawks have now won two of their last three games following a rough 1-5 stretch.
A balanced offensive effort fueled Atlanta’s win, with Georges Niang scoring 24 points, Trae Young contributing a 22-point, 16-assist double-double, and rookie Zaccharie Risacher going 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. The No. 1 overall pick in last year’s NBA Draft has scored in double figures in 10 of his last 12 games, raising his scoring average to 11.6 points per game.
“We’ve seen Zaccharie just continue to improve,” Hawks coach Quin Snyder said. “Sometimes you see it when the box score says he makes shots. There’s other times when maybe the ball isn’t going in, but he’s doing other things that are less noticeable. He runs the floor well for us and also uses his size on the defensive glass.”
Young continues to be the driving force behind Atlanta’s offense, averaging 23.6 points and an NBA-best 11.6 assists per game. Since arriving at the trade deadline, Caris LeVert (16.0 ppg) and Niang (14.4 ppg) have also provided a spark. However, LeVert (knee) is questionable for Saturday’s game.
Pacers Looking for Answers
Indiana had its two-game winning streak snapped in Atlanta, playing without Tyrese Haliburton (hip) and Bennedict Mathurin (wrist). Despite a 35-point effort from Pascal Siakam, the Pacers struggled defensively, allowing 74 points in the paint.
“We’ve got to fight harder from start to finish,” Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said. “We had some good stretches, but too many lags. This is the NBA, and you’re in a playoff-seeding race. It’s supposed to be hard, and you’re supposed to enjoy the privilege of being involved in a period that’s really important. We’ve got to make some serious adjustments before the next game.”
Siakam, who leads Indiana with 20.8 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, has been a consistent offensive presence since the All-Star break. However, if Haliburton (18.5 ppg) and Mathurin (16.2 ppg) remain sidelined, he will need to carry an even larger scoring load. Both players are listed as questionable for Saturday.
Playoff Implications
Indiana currently holds the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference, sitting one game behind the Milwaukee Bucks and one game ahead of the Detroit Pistons. Meanwhile, the eighth-seeded Hawks are battling for a play-in tournament spot, which would mark their fourth straight appearance in the NBA’s 7-10 play-in event.
