Tyler Herro, Heat Aim to Hand Hawks Fourth Straight Loss

The Miami Heat will look to snap out of their recent shooting slump, while the Atlanta Hawks continue integrating new players into their rotation when the teams meet Monday night in Atlanta.

This matchup is the second of four meetings between the two teams, both of whom are battling for playoff positioning in the Eastern Conference. The Heat currently sit in eighth place, one game ahead of the Hawks. The top six teams in the East automatically qualify for the postseason.

Atlanta secured a 120-110 home victory over Miami on Dec. 28. The teams will meet twice more on March 27 and Wednesday, both games in Miami.

Heat Seeking Offensive Rhythm

Miami enters the contest fresh off a 120-113 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday, where they were outscored 35-20 in the fourth quarter. The Heat have struggled offensively, losing five of their last six games.

“The offensive intentionality, I’ll have to take a look at it, but it felt better and it’s frustrating, but we’re making some progress and we just have to stay with it,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. “We have to show collective grit and resolve.”

Tyler Herro has been a bright spot for Miami, scoring a season-high 40 points twice in the past week, including Sunday’s loss. He leads the team with an average of 24.2 points per game and dropped 28 against the Hawks in their previous meeting.

“Tyler’s skill level and confidence is getting to a point where he can do it against all the different coverages and he can do it with or without the ball,” Spoelstra added. “He draws fouls now, which is important, especially on the road.”

The Heat will be without Nikola Jovic, who suffered a fractured second metacarpal in his right hand on Sunday. Jovic has been averaging 10.7 points per game.

Hawks Adjusting to Roster Changes

Atlanta is looking to bounce back from a 148-143 loss to the Detroit Pistons on Sunday, their third consecutive defeat. The Hawks are still adjusting to new acquisitions Georges Niang, Caris LeVert, and Terance Mann, who were added at the trade deadline.

“Sometimes you don’t get the result you want, but you get better if you learn the things that are going on on the court,” Hawks coach Quin Snyder said. “This is a team with a bunch of guys who haven’t played together all year.”

Despite the ongoing adjustments, Trae Young continues to be a stabilizing force, posting 38 points and 13 assists against Detroit. Young is averaging 24.2 points and an NBA-best 11.4 assists per game.

“As frustrating as it is to lose, especially against a team that’s right there with us in the standings, we still have some new guys we’re trying to get accustomed to,” Young said. “We’ll get it right.”

Can the Heat overcome their offensive struggles, or will the Hawks’ evolving lineup deliver a much-needed victory?
