It appears unlikely that Kristaps Porzingis will be available when the Boston Celtics take on the Utah Jazz on Monday night in the sixth contest of their seven-game homestand.

Celtics Continuing Strong Homestand

Porzingis hinted at a return before Boston’s 111-101 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday but was a late scratch, missing his fifth straight game due to a non-COVID illness. Initially listed as questionable for Monday, he has since been downgraded to doubtful.

Porzingis has played in 32 games this season, averaging 18.9 points and 6.8 rebounds. Al Horford stepped up in his absence Saturday, contributing 14 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and three steals in 37 minutes.

“Al is one of a kind,” Jayson Tatum said. “He’s the anchor to our defense and the heart and soul of our team. He keeps us emotionally steady.”

Tatum (knee tendinopathy) and Horford are listed as questionable for Monday. With a high-profile matchup against Oklahoma City looming Wednesday, Boston may opt to rest key players.

“Probably not going to play every game the rest of the season, but kind of building up your stamina going into the playoffs,” Tatum said. “Knowing that certain nights you might play 45, 44 minutes, just getting your body ready for that.”

Boston’s win over the Lakers extended its streak to four games and improved its home record to 22-11. The Celtics are 4-1 so far on this homestand.

Jazz Struggling to Find Momentum

“I’m proud of the work he’s put in,” Hardy said. “I think Flip’s development of his shot is definitely one of the highlights of this year for us.”

Monday’s game marks the first of two regular-season meetings between the Celtics and Jazz, with the next matchup set for March 21 in Utah.
