The 76ers Can Win If…

The 76ers dropped to 20-33 on the season after a 106-103 home loss to the Raptors on Tuesday. Philadelphia, who entered the game as -10.5 favorites, failed to cover the spread. The total points of 209 fell short of the 225-point O/U line.

Toronto’s 13-0 run early on shifted the momentum, but the 76ers responded with a strong 2nd quarter, outscoring the Raptors 34-24. However, they couldn’t capitalize, as Toronto edged them 34-29 in the 3rd, and both teams scored 22 points in the 4th.

In their 106-103 loss to the Raptors, the 76ers struggled offensively, shooting just 40.7% from the field and hitting only 9 threes at a 23.7% clip. Joel Embiid led the way with 27 points and 12 rebounds, adding 9 points in the 2nd quarter.

Despite a strong defensive effort in the 4th quarter, where they held the Raptors to 22 points, the 76ers couldn’t overcome a tough 3rd quarter, giving up 34 points in a 106-103 loss. Philadelphia did a good job limiting Toronto’s three-point shooting, allowing just 11 made threes on 33% shooting.

Sputtering Sixers Seek Turnaround vs. Improving Nets

The Philadelphia 76ers and Brooklyn Nets are heading in opposite directions as they face off Wednesday in Brooklyn.

Can the Sixers End Their Losing Streak?

Philadelphia (22-35) has lost four straight games and six of its last seven, falling to a season-worst 13 games under .500. The Sixers’ struggles have largely stemmed from inconsistent availability of their stars, with Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George rarely on the court together.

Embiid played in Tuesday’s 106-103 home loss to Toronto, recording 27 points and 12 rebounds. However, the Sixers’ offense stalled late, and head coach Nick Nurse acknowledged the team’s shooting woes.

“The offense is pretty clunky right now,” Nurse said. “We’ve got to find a rhythm.”

Maxey, who had scored at least 30 in eight of his previous 10 games, managed just five points against Toronto. Nurse suggested the guard may be playing through an injury.

“I have a feeling that there’s something bothering him physically,” Nurse said.

If Embiid sits Wednesday (he has yet to play in both ends of a back-to-back this season), the Sixers will lean on George, who has struggled offensively, failing to score more than 14 points in five straight games.

Brooklyn’s Defense Is Leading the Charge

Brooklyn (19-37) has turned its season around, going 5-1 in its last six games. The key? Defense. The Nets have held each of their past five opponents under 100 points, limiting them to 41 percent shooting or worse.

In Monday’s 97-89 win over Charlotte, Brooklyn outscored the Hornets 51-35 in the second and third quarters. Center Nic Claxton led the team with 16 points and has reached double figures in five of his last six games.

“We remember when that list came out. We definitely keep that in the back of our heads,” Brooklyn reserve Trendon Watford said, referencing preseason projections that had the Nets finishing among the NBA’s worst teams. “They doubted us.”

Claxton (ankle) is questionable for Wednesday’s game, meaning Day’Ron Sharpe could see increased minutes. Sharpe has shot 65.7 percent from the field over the past 11 games.

Will the Sixers Bounce Back, or Will Brooklyn Stay Hot?

Philadelphia has won both matchups against Brooklyn this season, but the Sixers are reeling while the Nets are peaking. Will Philly stop the slide, or will Brooklyn’s defense dominate again?
