Cavs, Working on New Win Streak, Face Stumbling Hornets
The Cleveland Cavaliers are on a roll, aiming to extend their winning streak to four games when they visit the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday afternoon.
Cavaliers’ Momentum
The Cavaliers (20-8) are fresh off a 3-0 homestand, capped by a 126-114 victory over the Denver Nuggets on Thursday. Head coach Kenny Atkinson sees this stretch as an opportunity to build on their strengths and push the team to greater consistency.
“When you have a team like this, what are our strengths and how can we double down on our strengths?” Atkinson said.
One emerging strength has been forward Evan Mobley, who is showcasing greater aggressiveness in his offensive game. Mobley scored 20 points against Denver, including three 3-pointers, reflecting his expanded shooting range.
“I like him having that mentality,” Atkinson said. “I think it’s a big key for us.”
Mobley, for his part, is embracing the evolution of his game.
“I was confident out there, so I just kept letting them fly,” Mobley said.
Past Matchup
The Cavaliers defeated the Hornets 128-114 at home on Nov. 17, with Darius Garland leading the way with 25 points. Cleveland overcame 20 turnovers and a 26-shot deficit by dominating at the free-throw line (27-10) in that matchup.
That victory capped Cleveland’s franchise-record 15-game winning streak to start the season. Since then, the Cavaliers have posted a respectable 5-3 record.
Hornets’ Struggles
Meanwhile, the Hornets (8-20) are mired in a seven-game losing streak. Their most recent setback came in a 125-101 road loss to the New York Knicks on Thursday, where Charlotte faltered in the second half.
Coach Charles Lee emphasized the need for greater physicality and consistency from his squad.
Brandon Miller continues to be a bright spot for the Hornets, scoring 26 points against the Knicks. The rookie has scored at least 20 points in nine consecutive games, stepping up in the absence of LaMelo Ball, who remains sidelined with a left calf strain.
Guard Seth Curry provided a spark with a season-high 18 points on Thursday, and Charlotte will look for similar contributions against Cleveland.
Center Rotation Challenges
The Hornets are also reintegrating center Mark Williams into the lineup after his return from injury. Williams has played limited minutes off the bench, averaging 9.5 minutes in two games this season.
This adjustment has affected the playing time of Moussa Diabate, who has been a defensive and rebounding asset but less impactful offensively.

“Minutes will be tough for him as we get bigs back,” Lee said of Diabate. “But he’s been a true pro.”
The injury bug struck again for Charlotte on Thursday, as rookie Tidjane Salaun left the game early with an ankle injury.
Recent History
Cleveland has fared well in recent visits to Charlotte, winning four of its last five games there. With the Hornets reeling and the Cavaliers finding their rhythm, Saturday’s game presents an opportunity for Cleveland to solidify its winning ways while Charlotte searches for answers.
