Warriors Look to Regain Momentum in Curry’s Hometown
The Golden State Warriors continue their five-game road trip Monday night as they visit the Charlotte Hornets, with Stephen Curry returning to his hometown for a marquee matchup.
Golden State had a strong February, but March started with a setback as their five-game winning streak ended Saturday in a 126-119 loss to Philadelphia.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr isn’t looking too far ahead, keeping his focus solely on the team’s playoff push.
“We would like to make the playoffs,” Kerr said. “The playoffs. You’re talking about the Finals? We just want to make the playoffs.”
One major factor in that playoff push? Managing Curry’s minutes.
“I can’t play him 40 minutes,” Kerr said. “I don’t really want to play him much more than 34, 35. … He’ll get his rest (Sunday) and be ready to go in Charlotte.”
Curry has been on fire recently, dropping 56 and 29 points in the first two games of Golden State’s road trip. However, he had a quiet night last week against the Hornets, finishing with 15 points on 2-for-9 shooting from deep in a 128-92 Warriors win.
On Saturday, Curry delivered a rare highlight—a dunk, his first since 2019.
“You have to cherry-pick opportunities,” Curry said. “That will probably be the last one (of my career).”
Hornets Struggling to Find Answers Amid Six-Game Losing Streak
The Charlotte Hornets have dropped six straight games, with five of those coming by double-digit margins.
Their most recent loss—a 113-100 defeat to the Washington Wizards—was a battle of the two worst teams in the Eastern Conference.
One major issue? Poor shot selection leading to easy transition baskets for opponents.
“We need to clean that up,” coach Charles Lee said.
Last week’s blowout loss to the Warriors was part of a historically bad stretch for Charlotte. During a three-game span, they were outscored by a combined 131 points—the worst point differential over three games in NBA history.

Mark Williams Emerging as a Bright Spot
One of the few positives for Charlotte has been center Mark Williams, who posted a 24-point, 12-rebound effort against Washington.
It marked his second straight game of strong production, and his first home game since his rescinded trade to the Lakers.
“Just more reps, more time on the court,” Lee said. “He continues to get better, find his way and his rhythm. We just need him to be able to do it for 48 minutes.”
Williams also recorded 12 points and 12 rebounds in last week’s loss to Golden State and could be a key factor in keeping the Hornets competitive.
LaMelo Ball’s Availability Remains Uncertain
LaMelo Ball returned to the court Saturday after missing time with a lingering foot injury, but his status remains game-to-game as the team monitors his health.
“Looking forward to just being mindful and smart with how we continue to finish the season with him,” Lee said.
Key Matchups to Watch
Stephen Curry vs. Hornets Defense
Curry had an off-night against Charlotte last week but has since found his shooting touch. If he gets hot early, the Hornets may not have an answer.
Mark Williams vs. Golden State’s Frontcourt
Williams has been one of the Hornets’ best players lately, and if he continues to dominate inside, it could keep Charlotte in the game longer.
Jordan Poole vs. Charlotte’s Perimeter Defense
Poole, playing against his former team, could have a big role off the bench in exploiting Charlotte’s defensive struggles.
What’s at Stake?
For Golden State, a win would:
- Help them bounce back from their loss to the 76ers.
- Keep them firmly in the Western Conference playoff hunt.
- Continue their dominance over struggling teams.
For Charlotte, a win would:
- Snap their six-game losing streak.
- Give them something to build on in an otherwise lost season.
- Provide a morale boost in front of their home crowd.
