The Pistons Can Win If…

The Pistons moved to 27-26 on the season with a 112-102 win over the Hornets on Sunday. Detroit was favored by 12 points at home but didn’t cover the spread. The game’s total of 214 points fell short of the 220-point over/under line.

Detroit took control early, going on a 15-0 run to extend their lead from 28-15 to 43-15. Charlotte fought back, outscoring the Pistons in each of the final three quarters, but Detroit’s strong start was enough to secure the win.

Tobias Harris led the Pistons with 20 points, 14 of which came in the 1st quarter, as they defeated the Hornets on Sunday. Cade Cunningham added 19 points, 12 assists, and 10 rebounds, while Malik Beasley contributed 17 points, hitting 5 threes despite shooting 35.7% from deep.

Detroit shot 48.9% from the field, but struggled from beyond the arc, connecting on just 29.7% of their attempts. Jalen Duren and Ausar Thompson each chipped in 16 points, with Duren scoring 10 in the 4th quarter.

The Pistons’ defense shined in the 1st quarter, holding the Hornets to just 15 points, and they allowed 102 points overall in the game. Charlotte scored 31 points in the 2nd quarter, but Detroit limited them to 27 in the 3rd and 29 in the 4th. The Hornets shot 43% from the field.

Detroit struggled to defend the three, as the Hornets hit 15 threes at a 46% clip. Charlotte also went 19/23 from the free-throw line. The Pistons gave up 9 offensive rebounds but recorded 11 steals and 1 block.

  • When looking at their past three road matchups, Detroit has an ATS record of 0-3 while averaging 107 per game. The team went 0-3 overall in these games.
  • In their last five games as the betting favorite, the Pistons have a strong straight up record of 4-1. In addition, their ATS record was 3-2 in these scenarios.
  • Over their last five games, the Pistons have an over/under record of 3-2 and are 3-2 vs. the spread.

The Bulls Can Win If…

Chicago’s season record dropped to 22-31 after a 132-111 home loss to the Warriors on Saturday. The Bulls, who were +6 point underdogs, failed to cover the spread, losing by 21 points. The game’s total score of 243 points narrowly exceeded the O/U line of 240.5.

Chicago looked strong early, going on an 18-0 run to take control in the 2nd quarter, outscoring the Warriors 38-21. However, Golden State responded by dominating the 3rd quarter 42-25 and finished the game on a 35-17 run in the 4th after leading just 97-94 going into the final period.

Coby White led the Bulls with 27 points and 6 made threes, shooting 66.7% from deep in their loss to the Warriors. He scored 10 points in the 3rd quarter, while Jalen Smith added 11 of his 15 points in the 2nd quarter.

The Bulls hit 17 threes at a 43.6% rate, but their overall shooting was just 44.3%. Matas Buzelis contributed 16 points, with 9 coming in the opening quarter.

Defensively, the Bulls struggled, giving up 132 points to the Warriors. They had a solid 2nd quarter, allowing just 21 points, but were overwhelmed in the 3rd, where they conceded 42 points. Chicago also gave up 35 points in the 4th quarter.

Golden State shot 50% from the field, including 39% from three, where they hit 19 threes. The Warriors also went 23/27 from the free-throw line. The Bulls allowed 16 offensive rebounds but managed to record 8 steals and 4 blocks.

  • Although Chicago has a straight up record of 1-4 in their last five home games, they have not held up as well vs the spread going 1-4. The team averaged 111 points per game in these games.
  • Going back to their previous five games as the underdog, Chicago has an ATS mark of 2-3 while going 2-3 straight up.
  • In their last three games, the Bulls have an over/under record of 3-0 and are 2-1 vs. the spread.

The Lean

In this Pistons vs. Bulls matchup, our point-spread bet is on the Bulls at +5. While we project the Pistons to win 123-122, our recommendation is to bet on the Bulls for the point-spread.

Right now, the over/under line for the game is sitting at 238.5 and given that our model is projecting 245 points between the teams, we like the over.

Pistons Count on Dennis Schroder as They Face the Bulls

The Detroit Pistons are looking for depth and playmaking, and Dennis Schroder might be the answer. As they take on the Chicago Bulls on Tuesday night, Schroder will continue his integration into the lineup, providing crucial support for star guard Cade Cunningham.

Schroder Adds Depth for Playoff-Pushing Pistons

Detroit acquired Schroder at the NBA trade deadline, and he made his team debut on Sunday, contributing five points and three assists in 15 minutes during the Pistons’ 112-102 win over Charlotte.

The Pistons, currently sixth in the Eastern Conference standings, are trying to maintain their playoff push despite dealing with Jaden Ivey’s injury (broken left fibula).

Coach J.B. Bickerstaff sees Schroder as a player who can relieve pressure from Cunningham (25.5 PPG, 12 assists, 10 rebounds vs. Hornets) and give the Pistons an extra playmaker.

Bulls Struggling, but Coby White Stays Hot

Chicago has lost 11 of its last 15 games, falling a season-worst nine games below .500. Despite their struggles, the Bulls still hold the No. 10 seed in the East, maintaining a 1.5-game lead over Philadelphia for the final play-in spot.

The team is adjusting without Zach LaVine, who was recently traded to Sacramento, and has leaned on Coby White for scoring.

White has been on fire lately, posting at least 20 points in five straight games, including 27 points (6-of-9 from three) in Saturday’s 132-111 loss to Golden State.

“He’s making some very deep, tough shots,” coach Billy Donovan said of White. “That’s been key for us.”

However, consistency has been a major issue for Chicago. The Bulls built a 24-point lead against Golden State but collapsed in the second half, struggling on the glass and with ball security.

Vucevic vs. Pistons: Can He Reignite?

Veteran big man Nikola Vucevic is having a rough stretch, averaging just 12 points in his last three games, well below his season average of 19.3 PPG.

However, Detroit has been a favorable matchup for him. In his last five games vs. the Pistons, Vucevic has averaged 24.4 points and 11.2 rebounds, including five straight double-doubles.

Who Has the Edge?

Detroit and Chicago have split their first two matchups this season, including the Pistons’ 127-119 win on Feb. 2.

While the Pistons are trending up, the Bulls are desperate for stability. Will Detroit’s new-look rotation with Schroder give them the edge, or will Chicago bounce back behind White and Vucevic?

Tuesday’s game will be the first of a back-to-back series between these teams in Chicago, setting the stage for a pivotal battle before the All-Star break.
