The Warriors Can Win If…

The Warriors fell to 25-26 on the season after a 120-112 road loss to the Lakers on Thursday. Golden State entered the game as +5.5 point underdogs and failed to cover the spread. The total score of 232 points went over the pre-game line of 226.

An 11-0 run by the Lakers early in the game put the Warriors in a hole, as they trailed 34-21 after the 1st quarter. Despite outscoring the Lakers 30-21 in the 3rd quarter and making a push in the 4th, Golden State couldn’t complete the comeback.

In their loss to the Lakers, the Warriors shot just 40.6% from the field and 30.2% from three-point range, though they still managed to hit 16 threes. Stephen Curry led the way with 37 points, knocking down 6 threes at a 30% clip.

Warriors

Curry was particularly effective in the 4th quarter, scoring 19 points. Buddy Hield and Moses Moody each added 14 points, with Hield hitting 4 threes at 44.4%.

The Warriors struggled defensively in the 1st and 2nd quarters, giving up 34 and 35 points, respectively, but tightened up in the 3rd, allowing just 21 points. However, they couldn’t maintain that momentum in the 4th, where they allowed 30 points, leading to a 120-112 loss to the Lakers.

Golden State allowed the Lakers to shoot 50% from the field, including 37% from beyond the arc, where Los Angeles hit 13 threes. The Warriors also sent the Lakers to the line 36 times, where they converted 29 free throws. Defensively, the Warriors recorded 8 steals and 2 blocks.

  • The last ten games that Golden State was favored, they have an ATS mark of 5-5 while going 6-4 straight up.
  • Over their last five games, the Warriors have an over/under record of 4-1 and are 2-3 vs. the spread.

The Bulls Can Win If…

The Bulls dropped to 22-30 on the season after a 127-108 road loss to the Timberwolves on Wednesday. Chicago entered the game as +11.5 point underdogs and failed to cover the spread. The total points for the game were 235, surpassing the O/U line of 226.5 by 8.5 points.

Chicago went on a 10-0 run, extending their lead from 27-8 to 37-8. However, after taking a 90-94 deficit into the 4th quarter, the Bulls were outscored 33-18 in the final period.

In their 127-108 loss to the Timberwolves, the Bulls shot 48.2% from the field but struggled from beyond the arc, hitting just 33.3% of their threes, making 12 in total. Coby White led the way with 20 points, knocking down 4 threes at a 66.7% clip, while adding 4 assists.

Josh Giddey contributed 19 points and 4 assists, hitting 3 threes at 60%. Matas Buzelis and Jalen Smith each added 14 points, with Buzelis grabbing 5 rebounds. White scored 11 of his points in the 1st quarter, while Giddey added 9 in the 2nd.

Overall, Chicago allowed Minnesota to shoot 42% from the field.

Chicago had trouble defending the three, as the Timberwolves hit 20 threes at a 42% clip. The Bulls also sent Minnesota to the line 28 times, where they converted 23 free throws. On the boards, Chicago gave up 23 offensive rebounds. Defensively, they recorded 9 steals and 5 blocks.

  • In their last three games, the Bulls have an over/under record of 2-1 and are 2-1 vs. the spread.

The Lean

Coming in as the underdogs at +6.5, we have the Bulls as the way to go on the point spread. Not only do we have them covering, but our projections show they have a good one of winning this one straight-up, if you’re looking for a higher payout on the moneyline.

Regarding the over/under, the current line is set at 235.5, and our model predicts the Warriors and Bulls to score a combined 215 points. We recommend betting on the under.

Jimmy Butler Plans to Make Warriors Debut at Bulls

A refreshed and relocated Jimmy Butler says he is in “a really good place mentally” as he prepares to make his debut with the Golden State Warriors on Saturday.

Butler Looking for Fresh Start

After being traded from the Miami Heat following a string of suspensions for conduct detrimental to the team, Butler hopes to suit up against his original team, the Chicago Bulls, on Saturday.

Golden State, struggling with three losses in its last four games, is eager for Butler’s scoring punch as it fights to stay in the Western Conference play-in race.

“I know that I have my joy back now,” Butler said. “I’m in a different situation, a different group of guys. Can’t wait to be out there and compete.”

This marks Butler’s fourth team since leaving Chicago in 2017, after stints with Minnesota, Philadelphia, and Miami. Warriors coach Steve Kerr is confident Butler’s commitment will outweigh past drama.

“Players sometimes need a fresh start. So do teams,” Kerr said. “I think we’re going to get the very best version of him. That’s why we made the deal.”

Bulls in Rebuild Mode After Trade Deadline Moves

Chicago was active before the trade deadline, moving leading scorer Zach LaVine to Sacramento in a three-team trade that included the San Antonio Spurs. The move signaled a shift toward rebuilding, but the Bulls held onto key veterans like Nikola Vucevic.

Despite losing 10 of their last 14 games, Chicago remains in the Eastern Conference play-in race, holding a slim one-game lead over Philadelphia for the final spot.

“I know us as players in this locker room, we are going to go out and try to win every game,” Bulls guard Coby White said. “We’ve got guys who want to compete and win. We’re not perfect, but we play hard every night.”

Rookie Matas Buzelis has taken on an increased role, scoring a career-high 24 points on 10-for-10 shooting in Tuesday’s 133-124 win over the Heat. He followed that with 14 points in a loss to Minnesota and has scored in double figures in five straight games.

“Now we move onto the next game and maybe I start and maybe I don’t,” Buzelis said. “But it doesn’t matter to me. I’m always going to be ready to play.”

Recent Matchups

Golden State has dominated recent meetings, winning eight of the past 10 games against Chicago. However, the teams have split their last two season series. The Bulls will look to even things up after Golden State’s commanding 131-106 home win on Jan. 23, led by Stephen Curry’s 21 points.

Can Butler’s Arrival Spark the Warriors?

Golden State is hoping Butler can provide an immediate impact, while the Bulls aim to hold onto their play-in spot. Will Butler’s debut be a game-changer for the Warriors, or will Chicago rise to the challenge?
