The Lean

Coming in as the underdogs at +3.5, we have the Timberwolves as the way to go on the point spread. Not only do we have them covering, but our projections show they have a good one of winning this one straight-up, if you’re looking for a higher payout on the moneyline.

Regarding the over/under, the current line is set at 235.5, and our model predicts the Timberwolves and Nuggets to score a combined 254 points. We recommend betting on the over.

Timberwolves Look to Stay Hot as They Visit Nuggets

The Minnesota Timberwolves reached the Western Conference finals last season, but this year, they are battling just to secure a playoff spot.

Timberwolves Riding Winning Streak

Minnesota has boosted its postseason hopes with five straight wins and will look to extend that streak when they visit the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday night.

The Timberwolves won the first two matchups against Denver, but those games were in Minneapolis. Now, they face a Nuggets team that has won 14 of its last 18 games and will host the final two games of the season series.

Minnesota carries a three-game road winning streak into the matchup and will have center Rudy Gobert in the lineup for the second consecutive game.

Gobert, who missed 10 games with back spasms, returned Sunday against San Antonio, contributing 16 points and eight rebounds in just 19 minutes. He will be key in containing Denver’s Nikola Jokic, who is averaging a triple-double this season.

“I feel like I’m strong. I feel like I’m balanced and I can move almost how I need to move to be myself. So it was a good time for me to come back, and I’m happy that (Sunday) went great.” – Rudy Gobert

Gobert leads Minnesota in rebounds (10.4) and blocks (1.5) per game while contributing 11.1 points per contest. The team’s top scorer, Anthony Edwards, averages 27.2 points, followed by Julius Randle (18.7), Naz Reid (14.9), and Jaden McDaniels (12.6).

Since acquiring Randle and Donte DiVincenzo in a trade that sent Karl-Anthony Towns to New York, the Timberwolves are starting to click.

“There’s just a chemistry, a rhythm, and a pace to how we’re playing,” Randle said. “Everybody’s buying in. It’s just making it easy for all of us.”

Nuggets Continuing Strong Play

Denver is coming off a split in two games at Oklahoma City, losing Sunday before bouncing back to win 140-127 on Monday. The Nuggets improved to 12-1 in the second game of back-to-backs this season, even without Aaron Gordon, who left Sunday’s game with right calf tightness.

Gordon, who has already missed 25 games due to the injury this season, will be a game-time decision on Wednesday but is unlikely to play.

Russell Westbrook has stepped up in Gordon’s absence, including a strong performance Monday with 16 points and seven assists. He is averaging 12.8 points, 6.1 assists, and 5 rebounds per game.

Denver remains led by MVP contender Nikola Jokic, who is among the league’s top three in points (28.9), rebounds (13.0), and assists (10.5) per game. However, the MVP favorite remains Oklahoma City’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

“I will say that I think I’m playing the best basketball of my life, so if that’s enough, that’s enough. If not, the guy [Gilgeous-Alexander] deserves it. He’s really amazing.” – Nikola Jokic

Jamal Murray is enjoying a career-best season, averaging 21.5 points per game, while Michael Porter Jr. adds 18.5. Christian Braun has stepped up as well, posting a career-high 15.3 points per contest.

What’s Next?

With both teams looking to improve their playoff positioning, this late-season matchup could have major implications in the Western Conference standings.
