Nuggets Aim to Extend Win Streak Against Short-Handed Blazers

The Denver Nuggets boast the NBA’s longest active winning streak at seven games and will look to keep the momentum going against the depleted Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night.

Denver’s Offense Firing on All Cylinders

Denver put on an offensive clinic in Monday’s 146-117 win over Portland, setting season highs in both points (146) and field-goal percentage (65.9). Nikola Jokic dominated with 40 points on 15-of-22 shooting, while Christian Braun added 26 points on an impressive 12-of-14 from the field.

“I think people are seeing how many easy buckets I get,” Braun said. “That’s part of our offense. That’s what unlocks a lot of our offense.”

Denver coach Michael Malone is more than happy to ride the team’s offensive groove.

“Why diversify our offense when it’s working?” Malone said. “We lead the league in fast-break points, paint points, and assists. That’s just the way our team is built.”

Michael Porter Jr. (hamstring) remains questionable, while Russell Westbrook (hamstring) is out for the seventh straight game.

Portland Short-Handed and Struggling

The Trail Blazers, who had won 10 of 11 before this road trip, have now dropped back-to-back games, including Monday’s blowout loss in Denver.

Portland will be without multiple key players, including Deandre Ayton (calf), Robert Williams III (knee), and rookie Scoot Henderson (ankle). Jerami Grant (knee) is also questionable.

Rookie big man Donovan Clingan was a bright spot on Monday, posting a career-high 21 points on a perfect 8-of-8 shooting.

“I feel like I ran the floor pretty well, rebounded well,” Clingan said. “I just wish I set better screens to get my guards open.”

Coach Chauncey Billups praised Clingan’s effort against Jokic despite the tough matchup.

“He was aggressive, finished well, passed well. It was a really good game for him,” Billups said.

Can the Nuggets Keep Rolling, or Will Portland Surprise?

Denver has won eight of the past nine meetings, but Portland’s lone victory came in dramatic fashion on Dec. 19, when Anfernee Simons hit a game-winning layup at the buzzer. Can the shorthanded Blazers pull off another shocker, or will Denver’s offense prove too much?
