The Lean
We’re calling a win for the Celtics, with a final score of 136-128, and we’re taking them to cover the spread. Our recommendation is to bet on the Celtics at -4.
Right now, the over/under line for the game is sitting at 226 and given that our model is projecting 264 points between the teams, we like the over.
Pistons Bid for Eighth Straight Win as They Host Celtics
The surprising Detroit Pistons will attempt to achieve something on Wednesday they haven’t done in 17 years: win eight consecutive games. To do so, they must overcome the defending champion Boston Celtics at home.
The last time Detroit won at least eight straight was in 2008, when they put together a 10-game streak from Jan. 23 to Feb. 13. That season, the Pistons reached the Eastern Conference finals for the sixth straight year before falling to the eventual champion Celtics.
Detroit’s last two wins came in contrasting fashion. The Pistons outgunned Atlanta in a 148-143 shootout on Sunday before relying on gritty defense to defeat the Los Angeles Clippers 106-97 on Monday.
“It took grit. It wasn’t easy,” coach J.B. Bickerstaff said. “Both teams came in fatigued. The style of basketball they play is rough, rugged, and physical. It wasn’t going to come easy for us.”
The game against the Clippers kicked off a four-game homestand for Detroit, which will also host Denver on Friday and Brooklyn on Saturday before heading out on a four-game road trip.
“I know how much this team means to this city when our guys are playing at the level they are playing at,” Bickerstaff said. “We need our fans. We love it when they’re in the building. It just brings a different vibe to the group because we want to make them happy.”
Cunningham Leading the Charge
No player has electrified Pistons fans more than All-Star Cade Cunningham, who is averaging career highs with 25.8 points, 9.5 assists, and 6.3 rebounds per game. Cunningham credited Bickerstaff, who took over after Monty Williams’ departure, for Detroit’s resurgence.
“I think he’s Coach of the Year, obviously,” Cunningham said. “The things that he’s done, how prepared we’ve been—I’m not surprised that we’ve won so many games. We feel more prepared than other teams.”
Celtics Seek Season Sweep
Boston, playing the second half of a back-to-back, secured its sixth consecutive victory with a 111-101 win over Toronto on Tuesday. Jaylen Brown led the team with 24 points, Derrick White contributed 22, and Payton Pritchard added 20 off the bench.
Pritchard has been on a hot streak, scoring 20-plus points in four of his last seven games.
“He’s really well-rounded where he can score at all three levels,” Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla said. “He can do it in transition, in the half-court, off offensive rebounds, and he can create his own shot.”
Boston played without Jrue Holiday (rest), Kristaps Porzingis (illness), and Al Horford (toe sprain), but all three are expected to be available against Detroit.
“He wasn’t feeling well, and at the same time, we wanted to make sure we have him for tomorrow,” Mazzulla said of Porzingis. “We all made that decision together.”
The Celtics have won all three meetings against Detroit this season and will look to complete the season sweep on Wednesday.
Can the Pistons Keep the Streak Alive?
Detroit is surging at the perfect time, but Boston represents their toughest challenge yet. Will the Pistons rise to the occasion, or will the Celtics’ dominance continue?
