Pacers Look to Keep Hot Streak Alive at Home vs. Pistons

After splitting two games in Paris, the Indiana Pacers are back home for the first time in 11 days to host the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday.

The Pacers have been one of the hottest teams in the NBA, going 9-2 in 2025—the best record of any team since the new year started. They wrapped up their overseas trip in style, crushing the Spurs by 38 points in what was their most dominant win of the season.

“It’s been really fun to be here,” said Pacers star guard Tyrese Haliburton after the win over San Antonio. “Helping grow the game, experiencing this opportunity from the league—it’s been amazing. We’re really grateful for it, and we just wanted to leave on a high note. I thought we played great tonight, and we want to carry this momentum forward.”

Pistons Fighting to Stay in Playoff Position

Detroit has been one of the season’s biggest surprises, currently holding the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference. However, the Pistons have lost four of their last six games and are dealing with injuries. Starting guard Jaden Ivey has missed the last four weeks after undergoing surgery on a broken fibula.

“We miss JI, no doubt about it,” said Pistons first-year head coach JB Bickerstaff after their 110-91 loss to Cleveland on Monday. “He’s a huge part of what we do and how we got to this point, but we have other guys we trust who can step up and make plays.”

One of those players is Cade Cunningham, who has been carrying the offensive load for Detroit. He’s averaging a career-high 24.8 points this season and has put up 27.6 per game over his last five. However, his shooting efficiency has taken a hit, dropping to 42% in that stretch, possibly due to fatigue from the added workload.

Wednesday’s matchup marks the final game of a five-game road trip for the Pistons.

Pacers’ Balanced Attack Leading the Way

Indiana has been one of the league’s most efficient offenses, ranking fourth in field goal percentage (49.0%) and eighth in three-point shooting (37.2%). They boast seven different players averaging double figures, led by Haliburton (18.0 PPG) and Pascal Siakam (20.2 PPG).

“I think our best basketball is still ahead of us,” Haliburton said. “If we stay focused and keep working, good things will happen.”

Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle took the opportunity in Paris to advocate for his players’ All-Star candidacies. While the starters have been announced, the reserves will be revealed on Thursday night.

“Tyrese and Pascal are All-Stars, period. Whether they get named to the team or not, we’ll see. But people around the league know they’re All-Star-caliber players,” Carlisle said. “Regardless of what happens, Pacers fans see these guys as superstars. They set the tone for who we are. If your star players aren’t unselfish and team-oriented, it’s always going to be tough to get everyone else to buy in.”

Indiana’s Chance to Make History

The Pacers hold a 2-1 edge over Detroit this season. A win on Wednesday would give Indiana the season series against the Pistons in back-to-back years for the first time since the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons.

With their momentum at an all-time high, the Pacers will look to take care of business at home before continuing their push up the Eastern Conference standings.
