Suns Look to End Slump as Bradley Beal Returns Against Grizzlies
The Phoenix Suns (34-26) are in desperate need of a spark as they head into Tuesday’s matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies (20-40).
The Suns have lost eight of their last ten games, including a 127-109 setback to the Toronto Raptors on Sunday.
Head coach Mike Budenholzer is frustrated with the team’s inability to close out games and generate consistent defensive stops.
“We’ve got to find ways to get wins,” Budenholzer said.
Phoenix is hoping Bradley Beal’s return to the starting lineup can help provide the missing spark.
Bradley Beal’s Impact on the Suns’ Offense
Beal was benched on Jan. 6 but was reinserted into the starting lineup on Saturday against Chicago. The result? A 25-point performance and a clutch three-pointer late in the game, helping Phoenix secure a 121-117 win.
Beal followed that up with 30 points in 41 minutes in Sunday’s loss to Toronto, showing that he is still capable of leading the Suns offensively.
“If we can get the right rhythm and find the right opportunities offensively and have all three of those guys (Beal, Kevin Durant, Devin Booker) be aggressive, I think that’s when we can be at our best,” Budenholzer said.
Phoenix is 7-3 this season when Beal, Booker, and Durant all play together, suggesting that when healthy, this trio has the potential to turn things around.

Kevin Durant: Suns Must Improve Defensively
While Beal’s offensive contributions have been a bright spot, Durant believes the Suns’ struggles start on defense.
Phoenix has been unable to stop scoring runs, and Durant knows they can’t keep digging themselves into deep holes.
“That’s usually how the game goes. (Opponents) go off and just go on a flurry against us,” Durant said. “Sometimes it’s hard to bounce back when teams score a lot of points in a row. I’ve got to bring it if I want us to win.”
Durant himself struggled against Toronto, scoring just 15 points on 5-of-15 shooting and going 0-for-5 from three-point range.
If Phoenix wants to snap out of its slump, it will need a better defensive effort and more consistent performances from its stars.
Grizzlies Facing Their Own Struggles
The Memphis Grizzlies have also been struggling, losing three of their last four games.
Their only win in that stretch came against Orlando, where they needed an 11-1 run late to close out the Magic.
Memphis fell 129-123 to Cleveland on Sunday, and head coach Taylor Jenkins was not pleased with how his team gave up 22 offensive rebounds, which led to 31 second-chance points for the Cavaliers.
The Grizzlies rank 25th in the NBA in offensive rebounds allowed (12.1 per game), which could be a major problem against a Phoenix team looking to get back on track.
Ja Morant Looking More Like Himself
One positive sign for Memphis has been Ja Morant’s recent play.
After battling injuries all season, Morant seems to be finding his rhythm, scoring 20+ points in three of his last four games.
Against Cleveland, he finished with 21 points, 10 assists, and just one turnover, showcasing his ability to run the offense efficiently.
With Desmond Bane and Marcus Smart still out, Morant will need to take over offensively if Memphis hopes to keep pace with Phoenix’s star trio.

What’s at Stake?
For the Suns:
- End a stretch of eight losses in ten games
- Build momentum with Beal, Durant, and Booker together
- Improve defensive execution to prevent scoring runs
For the Grizzlies:
- Avoid losing four of five games
- Fix defensive rebounding issues
- Get another strong performance from Ja Morant

Prediction: Can Phoenix Get Back on Track?
Both teams are desperate for a win, but Phoenix has the clear advantage in star power.
With Beal back in the starting lineup and Durant eager to bounce back, the Suns should be able to take control late and snap their slump.
If Memphis gives up offensive rebounds like they did against Cleveland, Phoenix will capitalize.
