The Heat Can Win If…

The Heat fell to 25-26 on the season after a 103-85 loss to the Celtics on Monday. Miami, who were +8.5 point underdogs, failed to cover the spread at home. The game’s total of 188 points was well below the 211.5-point line.

After leading 24-18 at the end of the 1st quarter, Miami gave up an 18-0 run, allowing Boston to take control. The Celtics outscored the Heat 34-19 in the 2nd quarter and 36-22 in the 3rd, putting the game out of reach before Miami held Boston to 15 points in the 4th.

The Heat struggled offensively in their 103-85 loss to the Celtics, shooting just 33.7% from the field and 24.4% from three-point range. They connected on 11 threes, with Alec Burks hitting 3 of them at a 60% clip.

The Thunder Can Win If…

The Thunder improved to 43-9 this season with a dominant 137-101 win over the Pelicans on Monday. Playing at home, Oklahoma City entered the game as heavy favorites, with a -17.5 point spread, and they covered with ease, winning by 36 points. The game’s total of 238 points narrowly exceeded the O/U line of 233.5.

Oklahoma City set the tone early, jumping out to a 33-20 lead after the 1st quarter. An 11-0 run extended their lead from 41-26 to 52-26, and they continued to pull away, outscoring the Pelicans 39-30 in the 2nd quarter. Heading into the 4th quarter with a 102-78 lead, the Thunder finished strong, outscoring New Orleans 35-23 in the final period.

The Lean

As the underdogs with a spread of +13.5, we recommend going with the Heat on the point spread. We not only see them covering the spread but also have a strong likelihood of winning this one outright, especially if you’re seeking a higher payout on the moneyline.

Regarding the over/under, the current line is set at 219, and our model predicts the Heat and Thunder to score a combined 249 points. We recommend betting on the over.

Andrew Wiggins, Heat Face Challenge at Oklahoma City

Two weeks ago, Andrew Wiggins played a key role in defeating the Oklahoma City Thunder as a member of the Golden State Warriors. Now, he’ll try to do it again—this time in a Miami Heat uniform—when the teams meet Wednesday night in Oklahoma City.

Wiggins Adjusting to New Role in Miami

Wiggins, who scored 27 points on 10-of-17 shooting in Golden State’s 116-109 win over the Thunder on Jan. 29, was part of a five-team trade at the deadline that sent Jimmy Butler to the Warriors. He made his Heat debut in Monday’s 103-85 loss to Boston, struggling with 11 points on 3-of-12 shooting while adding five rebounds and five assists.

“It’s the NBA. When you get traded midseason, you’ve got to figure it out,” Wiggins said after the loss. “We have great teammates here, (a) great coaching staff. Everybody has been wonderful to me, so I’m excited. We didn’t win today, but we’ve got a lot coming down the stretch.”

Miami also debuted fellow trade acquisitions Davion Mitchell and Kyle Anderson, both of whom are expected to play key roles moving forward.

“I see the potential in all three of them,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. “We want to get them as comfortable as possible. I think Wiggs, once he gets really comfortable, you can see the areas that he can help on both ends of the court. But he’s a weapon offensively. Defensively, he can really move.”

Thunder Rolling with League’s Best Record

Since their late-January loss to Wiggins and the Warriors, the Thunder (43-9) have been dominant, boasting the NBA’s best record and winning six straight games by an average of nearly 26 points per contest.

On Monday, Oklahoma City set a franchise record with 27 made three-pointers in a 137-101 rout of New Orleans.

Aaron Wiggins—not Andrew—has been red-hot for the Thunder during the winning streak, averaging 23.2 points per game while shooting 57.6 percent from the field and 48.8 percent from beyond the arc.

“I’m just kind of playing confident,” Aaron Wiggins said. “Guys are finding me, and I’m getting good looks. Shots are falling, so I’m just continuing to kind of play within the offense and try to make plays.”

Gilgeous-Alexander Dominates on Wednesdays

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been particularly dominant on Wednesdays, scoring 50 or more points in each of the past three played on that day.

  • Jan. 22: 54 points vs. Utah
  • Jan. 31: 52 points vs. Golden State
  • Feb. 7: 50 points vs. Phoenix

He’ll look to continue that trend against a Miami defense that ranks 10th in the NBA (111.9 defensive rating). However, the Thunder have been even better on that end, boasting the league’s top defensive rating (104.2).

Final Meeting of the Season

Oklahoma City won the first matchup between these teams, 104-97, on Dec. 20 in Miami. With both teams adjusting to roster changes, will the Thunder’s high-powered offense continue its dominance, or can Wiggins and the Heat pull off an upset?
