Magic Face Hawks Intent to Settle Into Familiar Surroundings
The Orlando Magic return home aiming to build momentum before the All-Star break when they host the Atlanta Hawks on Monday night. Both teams are jostling for playoff positioning in the Eastern Conference, making this a crucial matchup.
Can Orlando Take Advantage of Home Court?
The Magic (30-24) snapped a tough road stretch with a narrow 112-111 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday. After dropping five of six on their longest road trip of the season, Orlando was thrilled to be back at Amway Center, where it owns a solid 16-9 record.

“Coming off the West Coast, it’s time change, the sleep,” Magic coach Jamahl Mosley said. “But our guys pulled it out. Each guy individually stepping up. This is what you ask them to do.”
Franz Wagner starred against San Antonio with 33 points and 12 rebounds, while Paolo Banchero sealed the win with a clutch go-ahead jumper in the final 30 seconds.
“It’s never easy after the trip that we had, but at this point in the season, there’s really no time to waste and to wait,” Wagner said.
Wagner has been Orlando’s top offensive weapon this season, averaging 25.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game. Banchero, who has had big performances against the Hawks in the past, is averaging 22.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 5.0 assists.
Can Atlanta Keep Its Momentum?
The Hawks (27-27) have won two straight and three of their last four, including a 125-111 road win over the Washington Wizards on Saturday.
Trae Young put on a show, scoring 35 points with 14 assists, marking his 14th 30-plus-point game of the season. Young has historically thrived against the Magic, averaging 26.5 points and 8.8 assists in 20 career games against them.
“Any time a rookie in this league, particularly a 19-year-old, there’s going to be ebbs and flows, there’s going to be adversity,” Hawks coach Quin Snyder said. “I think he’s been tough minded in how he handles that.”
Atlanta is also adjusting to its new roster following the trade deadline. Georges Niang made an immediate impact in his Hawks debut, scoring 16 points while hitting four consecutive three-pointers. Rookie Zaccharie Risacher also stepped up with 18 points, matching his third-best output of the season.
Who Gains Ground in the Playoff Race?
The Magic currently hold the No. 8 seed in the East, while the Hawks sit at No. 9. With both teams looking to solidify their postseason positioning, this game could be pivotal down the stretch.
