The Philadelphia 76ers and Brooklyn Nets likely did not expect to be tied in the standings after 55 games. Yet, that’s exactly where the Atlantic Division rivals are heading into Saturday’s matchup in Philadelphia.
Philadelphia’s Struggles
Philadelphia entered this season with title aspirations, but injuries and inconsistent play have derailed their plans. The Sixers are coming off their sixth straight loss—a 124-104 setback against the Boston Celtics on Thursday.
Despite having their “Big Three” of Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George available, the Sixers were dominated by Boston, which made 24 3-pointers while Philadelphia shot just 8-of-39 from deep. Embiid finished with only 15 points on 3-of-9 shooting and collected just three rebounds.
“I think we’re having some general movement issues—keeping up with the pace of the game, conditioning, rhythm, whatever it is,” coach Nick Nurse said. “That’s a challenge for us.”
With 27 games remaining, the Sixers sit outside the top 10 in the Eastern Conference, putting their playoff streak in jeopardy.
“You have to have some urgency out there,” Maxey said. “Every game is going to be important for us.”
Brooklyn’s Injury Woes
Brooklyn has faced its own struggles this season. Leading scorer Cam Thomas remains sidelined with a hamstring injury, while the team also traded away Dennis Schroder and Dorian Finney-Smith and parted ways with Ben Simmons.
Most recently, D’Angelo Russell injured his right ankle in Thursday’s 110-97 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers, putting his status for Saturday in question. Since acquiring Russell from the Lakers, Brooklyn is 8-9 with him in the lineup but 0-6 without him.
“Veteran leader of this team, keeps things calm and centered,” Nets swingman Cam Johnson said. “For him to go down, that’s tough.”
Against Cleveland, the Nets struggled from deep (10-of-38), at the free-throw line (11-of-19), and with turnovers (15). They also couldn’t contain former Net Jarrett Allen, who posted 16 points and 20 rebounds.

“We all have to be better. That’s pretty simple,” Brooklyn coach Jordi Fernandez said. “What we’ve done is come back, own it, and go on to Philly. It’s going to be a good game.”

This is the fourth and final regular-season meeting between the teams. Philadelphia won the first two games by an average margin of 22 points before Brooklyn responded with a 100-96 victory on Feb. 12.
