76ers and Bulls Battle in Philadelphia as Both Look to Snap Losing Streaks

Two teams in desperate need of a win will clash Monday night as the Philadelphia 76ers host the Chicago Bulls in a battle of two struggling squads. The Sixers enter the game on a seven-game losing streak, while the Bulls have dropped six straight.

Despite their recent struggles, both teams remain on the fringes of postseason contention in the Eastern Conference. Chicago currently holds the 10th seed—the final play-in spot—while Philadelphia sits two games back, hoping to stay in the race.

Sixers Seeking Answers After Heartbreaking Loss to Brooklyn

Philadelphia’s latest defeat was a crushing 105-103 loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday. Tyrese Maxey hit a clutch three-pointer to tie the game in the final seconds, but Brooklyn’s Nic Claxton secured an offensive rebound and put back the game-winner at the buzzer.

Guard Quentin Grimes, who has been solid since arriving in a trade from Dallas, voiced his frustration after the game.

“It’s tough. That’s one of the games that we felt like we should’ve won,” Grimes said.

Grimes has been one of the few bright spots, scoring in double figures in all six games since joining Philadelphia and grabbing at least seven rebounds in five straight outings.

The bigger concern for Philadelphia is Joel Embiid’s health. The reigning NBA MVP is clearly not himself, shooting 7-of-22 over the last two games while battling a lingering knee issue. He was benched in the fourth quarter on Saturday, as head coach Nick Nurse opted to let other players finish the game.

“He’s giving us what he can. He’s not himself; we all know that,” Nurse admitted. “I commend him for giving us what he can.”

Embiid declined to speak to the media after the game.

Bulls Competing but Struggling to Close Games

While Chicago has lost six straight, their past two games have been competitive to the very end. The Bulls fell 113-111 in overtime to the New York Knicks on Thursday before dropping a 121-117 decision to the Phoenix Suns on Saturday.

Against Phoenix, Josh Giddey led the way with 24 points, 10 assists, and 8 rebounds, while Coby White added 20 points and 8 assists.

Despite the losses, head coach Billy Donovan praised his team’s effort.

“The New York game and this game, at the rim there’s more presence and being aggressive at the point of attack,” Donovan said. “I’m happy and pleased with the way the guys are competing and battling.”

Rookie Matas Buzelis is starting to find his rhythm, scoring 15 points in 24 minutes against the Suns. While he’s averaging just 6.5 points per game, he’s now scored in double figures in nine of his last ten games.

Meanwhile, Giddey has been on fire, averaging 25.5 points, 12 rebounds, and 7 assists over his past two contests.
