Suns Sinking Fast as They Prepare to Host Kings
The Phoenix Suns are running out of time to salvage their season, and a loss to the Sacramento Kings on Friday night would push them even closer to the brink.
Suns Facing Uphill Battle
Phoenix has dropped 14 of its last 19 games, tumbling six games below .500 with just 16 games remaining. The Suns sit 2.5 games behind the Dallas Mavericks for the final play-in spot in the Western Conference and trail Sacramento by 3.5 games.
“This road trip took a little bit out of us, but I think these guys, couple of nights in their own bed, get back in our gym, we’ll be ready to go,” Suns coach Mike Budenholzer said.
Phoenix is entering a critical stretch with six of its next seven games at home, making this a must-win contest.
Kings in a Slump of Their Own
Sacramento has lost three straight games, including two blowout defeats—133-104 to the New York Knicks and 130-104 against the Golden State Warriors on Thursday. The Kings, who currently occupy the ninth seed in the West, have struggled in the absence of star center Domantas Sabonis.
Sabonis has missed six straight games with a left hamstring injury, and though he returned to practice this week, he sat out against the Warriors. His status for Friday remains uncertain.
Interim coach Doug Christie was frustrated after the latest loss, believing his team should have performed better.
“We’re going to figure it out, we’re not going to sit here and have excuses,” Christie said. “This is a game in my opinion that we should’ve won.”
Suns Searching for Consistency
Phoenix wrapped up a 1-3 road trip with a 111-104 loss to the Houston Rockets on Wednesday. Despite another strong performance from Bradley Beal (25 points), the Suns couldn’t string together enough defensive stops.
Mason Plumlee remains optimistic despite the team’s struggles.
“I feel like really the last three, four games we have a good rhythm with a good group,” Plumlee said. “We are playing well. I know it didn’t result in a win (Monday) in Memphis, but we’ve had moments with our group that look really good, so I’m excited for this last stretch.”
Devin Booker and Kevin Durant each scored 19 points against Houston but will need to step up to keep the Suns’ slim postseason hopes alive.

Sacramento got a bright spot from Keon Ellis, who scored 18 points off the bench.
Injury Updates
Phoenix could be without Grayson Allen (foot), while Nick Richards (ankle) is questionable. Sabonis’ status for Sacramento remains up in the air.
