Victor Wembanyama, Spurs Seek Sweep of Pacers in Paris
The San Antonio Spurs will look to secure a two-game sweep of the Indiana Pacers in the NBA’s Paris Games when the teams meet again on Saturday.
The Spurs delivered their most impressive offensive performance in two seasons during Thursday’s 140-110 blowout victory, outscoring Indiana 45-23 in the third quarter after leading by just three at halftime. It was San Antonio’s highest point total this season and the franchise’s largest scoring output since a 142-point overtime win over Sacramento on April 2, 2023.

Wembanyama Shines in Homecoming Performance
The Paris Games have been an ideal homecoming for Victor Wembanyama, and the 21-year-old superstar center did not disappoint in Thursday’s win. Wembanyama filled the stat sheet, finishing with:
- 30 points
- 11 rebounds
- 6 assists
- 5 blocks
- A highlight-reel self-pass off the glass for a dunk
San Antonio took a commanding 105-80 lead into the fourth quarter, and Indiana never got closer than 18 points the rest of the way. Devin Vassell (25 points), Harrison Barnes (20 points), and Jeremy Sochan (13 points) also contributed to the team’s offensive explosion.
Barnes praised the team’s defensive effort, which had been lacking in recent games:
“I was proud of our effort over the course of the game. Defensively the last couple of games, we haven’t been our best, so I thought we were able to put together 48 minutes.”
The Spurs shot a blistering 60.4 percent from the field and were 18-of-36 from three-point range, a level of efficiency they will aim to replicate in the rematch.
Pacers Seeking Defensive Adjustments
Indiana struggled mightily in the second half, finishing the game shooting just 45.4 percent from the floor.
Bennedict Mathurin led the Pacers with 24 points, while Pascal Siakam (18), Myles Turner (14), Tyrese Haliburton (13), and Obi Toppin (13) also contributed offensively.
However, coach Rick Carlisle was frustrated with his team’s defensive collapse, particularly the third quarter, where Indiana gave up 45 points—a season-worst mark.
“I don’t know if we’ve ever given up that many points in a quarter,” Carlisle said. “Even when we were bad on defense, giving up 45 points in one quarter is alarming. But you’ve got to give the Spurs a lot of credit. They played at a high level, led by Victor, who was sensational. Their shot-making was great. We’ve just got to be much, much better.”
Pacers Look to Regain Defensive Identity
The loss snapped Indiana’s two-game winning streak and was just their second defeat in the past 10 contests. Prior to Thursday, Indiana had:
- Allowed 115+ points just once in their last nine games
- Given up 40+ points in a quarter only once all season
The Pacers will need to tighten their defense significantly if they hope to slow down Wembanyama and the red-hot Spurs offense in the rematch on Saturday.
