Blazers Ride Historic Win Into Salt Lake City
The Portland Trail Blazers and Utah Jazz may be near the bottom of the Western Conference standings, but both teams delivered statement wins over the weekend, showing glimpses of potential ahead of their matchup on Monday night in Salt Lake City.
Portland comes in riding high after a franchise-record 53-point win over the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday. The 141-88 victory snapped a four-game losing streak and marked the team’s largest margin of victory in franchise history.
“It just feels so good to see our guys have so much success playing the right way,” Blazers coach Chauncey Billups said.
Anfernee Simons led the charge with 25 points, hitting five three-pointers, while Toumani Camara (20 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists), Jabari Walker (20 points, 14 rebounds), and Shaedon Sharpe (20 points off the bench) also made major contributions.

Portland shot 58.6% from the field and 20-of-43 (46.5%) from three-point range, completely overwhelming Charlotte.
“Anytime you make 20 3s in this league, you give yourself an incredible chance to score a lot of points,” Billups said. “We were just hitting on all cylinders.”
With less than two months left in the regular season, the Blazers are still fighting for a play-in spot, sitting 4.5 games behind 10th-place Sacramento. Monday’s game is an opportunity to keep the momentum going.
Jazz Flash Potential in Win Over Houston
Meanwhile, Utah showed its own upside in a 124-115 win over the Houston Rockets on Saturday. The Jazz dominated the fourth quarter, delivering a rare home victory in a season largely focused on rebuilding for the future.
Keyonte George led the way with 30 points off the bench, shooting 10-of-17 from the field and 5-of-8 from deep, while adding eight rebounds and six assists.
The Jazz also saw strong performances from their young core, including:
- Isaiah Collier (12 points, 10 assists)
- Walker Kessler (11 points, 17 rebounds)
- Cody Williams (9 points, 6 rebounds)
- Kyle Filipowski (8 points)
Utah coach Will Hardy was quick to defend his team’s growth, emphasizing the progress of his young players.
“The petty part of me is my first reaction is (to say) ‘told you so’ for everybody who talked (expletive),” Hardy said. “These guys are young, and they’re getting better, and they’re working really hard.”
While the Jazz are focused on player development and draft positioning, wins like this show their potential moving forward.

Series Tied as Teams Face Off in Utah
Portland and Utah have split their first two meetings this season. The Jazz dominated in a 141-99 blowout in early December, while Portland edged out a two-point win later that month.
Both teams will look to build off their impressive performances from Saturday, with Portland aiming to stay in the play-in race and Utah hoping to continue its young core’s development.
Will the Blazers’ record-setting performance carry over, or can the Jazz capitalize on home court? Monday’s showdown will be a test of momentum for both teams.
