The Dallas Mavericks aim to extend their winning streak to six games when they visit the struggling Washington Wizards on Thursday night.

Dallas (14-5) secured its ninth win in 10 games on Tuesday with a 121-116 comeback victory over the Memphis Grizzlies, a result that also advanced the Mavericks to the knockout round of the NBA Cup. Despite a sloppy third quarter in which Dallas committed more turnovers (11) than made field goals (10), the Mavericks rallied from a 15-point deficit in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Spencer Dinwiddie was pivotal off the bench, scoring 16 points, including back-to-back 3-pointers in the final moments that gave Dallas a 116-111 lead with just over a minute remaining.
“I thought the group did a great job of staying together,” Mavericks coach Jason Kidd said. “We just kept fighting. (We had) a lot of turnovers — things that we haven’t been doing. But the team stayed together.”
Luka Doncic continued his MVP-caliber season, scoring 37 points to go along with 12 rebounds and four steals. Doncic has tallied 73 points in his past two games, and his efficient shooting (11 of 22 from the field, including 5 of 9 from 3-point range) has fueled Dallas’ offensive dominance. Rookie Dereck Lively II added 17 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks, while P.J. Washington contributed 18 points.

Wizards’ Freefall
The Wizards (2-19) suffered their 15th consecutive loss on Tuesday, falling 118-87 to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Washington, eliminated from NBA Cup contention, is one loss away from tying the franchise record for consecutive defeats, set twice, most recently last season.
Washington struggled across the board against Cleveland, shooting just 38.6 percent from the field and 15.4 percent from 3-point range while committing 21 turnovers. Jonas Valanciunas, Jordan Poole, and rookie Bub Carrington each scored 13 points, with Valanciunas also grabbing 11 rebounds in limited minutes.
“The first quarter they came out and hit us in the mouth,” Wizards coach Sheldon Keefe said. “I thought we fought back at the start of the second quarter.”
However, the fight was short-lived as the Cavaliers went on a decisive 10-0 run to reestablish control.
Adding to the Wizards’ woes, rookie forward Kyshawn George and guard Corey Kispert exited in the second quarter with sprained left ankles, while Malcolm Brogdon left in the third with right knee soreness.
