Baylor Aims for First Road Win at Arizona State
The Baylor Bears will look to notch their first true road win of the season when they visit the Arizona State Sun Devils in a Big 12 clash Saturday night in Tempe, Arizona.
Baylor’s Road Struggles
Baylor (10-4, 2-1 Big 12) has yet to win on the road this season, going 0-3 in hostile environments against top-tier opponents, including lopsided losses at Gonzaga and Iowa State. Their closest attempt came in a narrow 76-72 defeat to two-time defending national champion UConn.
However, the Bears are coming off a dominant 68-48 home victory over Cincinnati. They shot 50 percent from the field while holding the Bearcats to just 34.7 percent shooting.

Leading the way was Norchad Omier, who tallied 18 points and 10 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the season. Freshman forward Jason Asemota also showed promise, contributing defensively with four rebounds, a steal, and a block in 15 minutes.
“I’m 6-9, long arms, there’s no reason I shouldn’t be a good defender,” Asemota said. “That’s what they’ve been telling me all year.”
Omier leads Baylor with averages of 15.7 points and 10.8 rebounds per game, and he’ll need to maintain his dominance to help Baylor secure its first road win.
Arizona State’s Recent Struggles
The Sun Devils (10-4, 1-2 Big 12) enter the matchup looking to bounce back after a rough 74-55 loss to No. 11 Kansas. Despite leading by six points at halftime, Arizona State managed just 13 points in the second half while struggling against Kansas’ full-court pressure.
“They really turned up their pressure on defense with their press, and that cost us some baskets,” Arizona State coach Bobby Hurley said. “The game started getting away from us quickly, and we weren’t able to stop the bleeding.”
Arizona State has lost three of its last five games and hopes to avoid extending its five-game losing streak against Baylor.
Key Players to Watch
Arizona State hopes to have leading scorer Joson Sanon (13.5 points per game) back in the lineup after he missed the last two games with an ankle injury. Sanon also leads the team with 28 3-pointers made this season.
Forward Basheer Jihad is another critical contributor, averaging 13.1 points per game. Freshman standout Jayden Quaintance provides a strong inside presence, leading the team with 8.4 rebounds, 42 blocks, and 20 steals. Quaintance is on pace to break Arizona State’s freshman record for blocks, set at 55 by Mario Bennett in 1991-92.
Matchup History
Baylor has dominated the all-time series, leading 6-2, and hasn’t lost to Arizona State since the 1988-89 season.
What to Watch For
Baylor’s defensive prowess and Omier’s rebounding will be tested against Arizona State’s interior threats, particularly Quaintance. For the Sun Devils, managing turnovers and capitalizing on Sanon’s possible return will be crucial to their chances of halting their slide against Baylor.
