LSU, Arkansas Both Look to Rebound from Close Losses in SEC Showdown
Two teams desperate for a turnaround will clash on Wednesday night when LSU visits Arkansas in Fayetteville. Both squads have struggled in the SEC this season and are coming off frustrating defeats.
Heartbreak for Both Teams
LSU (12-11, 1-9 SEC) was on the verge of upsetting then-No. 25 Ole Miss on Saturday but collapsed in the final minutes, getting outscored 13-0 to lose 72-70. The Tigers had a chance to break a tie in the final 30 seconds, but Cam Carter was whistled for an offensive foul before Ole Miss tipped in the game-winning shot with 0.1 seconds left.

“I just feel like (it’s) staying together as a team, staying the course, trusting the process,” LSU forward Daimion Collins said. “And just coming back, getting back in the lab, going to work and just trying to come out the next game and get a win.”
Meanwhile, Arkansas (14-9, 3-7) had shown signs of life with back-to-back upsets over then-No. 12 Kentucky and Texas. But their momentum was halted in an 85-81 home loss to then-No. 3 Alabama. The Razorbacks fought back from an 18-point deficit in the final six minutes but ran out of time.
“This team never stopped and they came back and they made plays,” Arkansas coach John Calipari said. “They played fearless and that’s what they have to do.”
Can LSU Sweep the Razorbacks?
LSU’s only conference win came against Arkansas, 78-74, back on Jan. 14. The Tigers will need a repeat performance to snap their six-game losing streak.
One key factor will be LSU’s free-throw shooting. The Tigers entered their last game shooting 78 percent from the line in SEC play but made just 12 of 25 against Ole Miss. Arkansas, meanwhile, has been fearless in its recent matchups, pushing Alabama to the wire after its big road wins.
Both teams are looking to avoid further slipping in the standings. Can LSU secure a much-needed season sweep, or will Arkansas bounce back at home?
