DePaul’s Hot Shooting Too Much for Georgetown
DePaul closed its Big East regular season with a statement, shooting 56.6 percent from the field to defeat Georgetown 83-77 on Saturday in Chicago. The Blue Demons (13-18, 4-16 Big East) have now won back-to-back conference games for the first time in three years, marking their first Big East winning streak since a three-game run in 2022.
Isaiah Rivera led the charge with 21 points, nine rebounds, and six assists, while CJ Gunn added 17 points and Layden Blocker scored 16. DePaul’s offensive efficiency, including 8-of-15 shooting from three-point range, proved too much for a struggling Georgetown squad that has now lost six straight road games.
Georgetown’s Effort Falls Short Despite Peavy’s Big Night
The Hoyas (17-14, 8-12 Big East) were led by a dominant performance from Micah Peavy, who scored 29 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Jayden Epps added 17 points, but Georgetown shot just 42 percent from the field and couldn’t overcome DePaul’s hot shooting.
This loss sets up a rematch between the teams in the first round of the Big East Tournament, where No. 7 seed Georgetown will face 10th-seeded DePaul.
How DePaul Took Control
DePaul opened the second half with five straight points, extending its lead to 43-34. Peavy kept Georgetown in the game, and his basket off a goaltending call cut the deficit to 55-53 with 10:52 remaining.
However, Rivera responded immediately, hitting a three-pointer that ignited a 15-7 DePaul run, giving the Blue Demons a double-digit lead.
Georgetown fought back, using a 15-8 surge, including a four-point play from Epps, to pull within 78-75 with under a minute remaining. But the Hoyas failed to close the gap, allowing DePaul to seal the victory.

First-Half Battle Set the Tone
Peavy was sensational in the first half, making 7-of-12 shots, including all four of his three-point attempts. Despite that effort, DePaul took a 38-34 lead into halftime, thanks to a 9-2 run to close the half, with Rivera scoring five of those points.
The opening 20 minutes featured six lead changes and eight ties, with DePaul shooting 52 percent overall and 6-of-9 from three, while Georgetown struggled at 37.8 percent from the floor.
JJ Traynor scored 12 points, and Troy D’Amico added 10 for DePaul, which also snapped a 39-game Big East regular-season losing streak earlier this year with a 73-68 win at Georgetown on Jan. 17.
What’s Next?
With the Big East Tournament set to begin, DePaul will try to keep its momentum going as it faces Georgetown again in the opening round. The Hoyas will aim for revenge, but they will need a stronger defensive effort to slow down DePaul’s efficient offense.
Can the Blue Demons ride their hot streak into postseason play, or will Georgetown bounce back in the tournament? The rematch will decide who extends their season in the Big East Tournament.
