Seton Hall, DePaul Desperate to End Losing Streaks in Big East Showdown
The Seton Hall Pirates and DePaul Blue Demons meet in Chicago on Sunday, both hoping to end their losing ways in a critical Big East Conference matchup.
Seton Hall’s Heartbreaking Losses Piling Up
The Pirates (6-15, 1-9 Big East) are in free fall, losing six straight games, including a 69-67 heartbreak to Providence on Tuesday.
Despite rallying from a 15-point second-half deficit, Seton Hall fell short once again in a one-possession game, marking their fifth such loss this season.
Coach Shaheen Holloway described the locker room as “super down” after the game, but he wants that pain to fuel his team.
“I told them it should sting, it should hurt, because that shows you care,” Holloway said. “I wanna cry every freakin’ game.”
Seton Hall desperately needs leading scorer Isaiah Coleman to bounce back after an 0-for-10 shooting performance against Providence. He dropped 24 points vs. DePaul in their first meeting but was held to just two points Tuesday while dealing with back spasms.
DePaul Still Searching for Consistency
The Blue Demons (10-12, 1-10 Big East) have lost three straight since snapping their 37-game conference losing streak against Georgetown on Jan. 17.
DePaul had UConn on the ropes Wednesday, leading by 14 points in the first half, but collapsed late in a 72-61 loss.
“I thought it was, in a lot of ways, a really clean game for our guys,”
–DePaul coach Chris Holtmann
Layden Blocker led the Blue Demons with 18 points, while CJ Gunn added 14 points.
Gunn has been DePaul’s most consistent scorer in Big East play, putting up double figures in seven straight games, including a team-high 21 points against Seton Hall last month.
Can Seton Hall Rally Again?
The Pirates pulled off a stunning comeback win against DePaul on Jan. 8, overcoming a 19-point second-half deficit to force overtime and steal an 85-80 victory.
Seton Hall has dominated this series, winning 10 of the last 12 matchups.
Key Questions for Sunday’s Game:
✅ Can Seton Hall finally close out a tight game?
✅ Will DePaul hold onto a late lead this time?
✅ Can Isaiah Coleman bounce back for the Pirates?
With both teams desperate for a win, expect a hard-fought battle in Chicago.
