No. 3 Florida Seeks 13th Straight Win Over Rival Georgia
Florida Looks Unstoppable as SEC Tournament Nears
With March Madness right around the corner, No. 3 Florida (24-3, 11-3 SEC) is playing its best basketball at just the right time.
The Gators are on a six-game winning streak, and with a 79-65 road win over LSU on Saturday, they inched closer to securing a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament—something they haven’t achieved since 2014.
Now, they head to Athens to face Georgia (16-11, 4-10 SEC) in a matchup they’ve completely dominated in recent years.
Florida has won 12 straight against the Bulldogs, a streak that dates back to March 2019—ironically, when current Georgia head coach Mike White was leading the Gators.
White will be looking to break his former team’s grip on the rivalry, but Florida has too much firepower to slow down easily.

Gators’ Explosive Offense Continues to Shine
Florida boasts one of the most lethal offenses in the nation, ranking 11th in scoring (83.6 PPG).
They have multiple scoring threats in the backcourt, making them a nightmare matchup for most defenses:
- Walter Clayton Jr. (17.1 PPG, 4.6 RPG, 2.9 APG) – Florida’s go-to scorer and perimeter threat.
- Alijah Martin (15.0 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 1.8 APG) – A dynamic two-way guard who can score at all levels.
- Will Richard (12.6 PPG, 5.8 RPG) – A consistent scoring presence who stretches the floor.
However, what has made Florida even scarier is the emergence of center Rueben Chinyelu as a dominant force inside.
Over the last three games, Chinyelu has averaged 13.3 points and 7.0 rebounds, adding an inside presence that makes Florida even harder to defend.
His performance against LSU—19 points, 13 rebounds—was his best of the season.
“That was his best game as a Gator, for sure,” head coach Todd Golden said. “He’s improving so much in real time, and he’s given us a big lift over these last couple of weeks.”
With dominant guard play and an improving frontcourt, Florida looks like a legitimate national title contender heading into March.
Georgia Desperate to Stop Losing Streak & Stay in NCAA Tournament Hunt
While Florida is riding high, Georgia is in free fall.
The Bulldogs have lost four straight and are at risk of falling out of NCAA Tournament contention if they don’t turn things around quickly.
Sitting firmly on the bubble, Georgia needs a signature win to strengthen its resume.
But at 3-10 against Top 25 teams, they need another major victory to feel comfortable on Selection Sunday.
Can Georgia Finally Break Through?
Georgia fought hard against No. 1 Auburn on Saturday, staying competitive before ultimately falling 82-70.
Head coach Mike White believes that effort can carry over into the Florida matchup.
“We competed at a higher level than we have in recent weeks,” White said. “Auburn made some big plays late. Otherwise, it would have been even more interesting at the end. If we continue to play like that down the stretch of the season, I’ve got faith that we have some more wins in us.”
Key Players for Georgia
- Asa Newell (15.4 PPG, 6.3 RPG) – The team’s leading scorer, he must have a huge game for Georgia to have a chance.
- Silas Demary Jr. (12.1 PPG, 4.8 APG) – A strong distributor who will need to control the pace against Florida’s high-powered offense.

What’s at Stake?
For Florida:
- Extend their 12-game win streak over Georgia

Prediction: Can Georgia Pull Off the Upset?
Florida has been too dominant in this matchup to predict anything other than another Gators win.
The combination of elite guard play and improved interior scoring makes them one of the most well-rounded teams in the nation.
Georgia needs this game badly, but Florida is too explosive offensively to be slowed down.
