Georgia Tech looks to take another positive step in new Damon Stoudamire era on Thursday when it hosts Howard in Atlanta.

Miles Kelly sank four 3-pointers to highlight his 25-point performance in the Yellow Jackets’ 84-62 season-opening win over Georgia Southern on Monday.

Kelly, who went 4-for-9 from beyond the arc against the Eagles, is 39-for-88 (44.3 percent) during his last nine games dating back to last season.

Deebo Coleman (17 points) and Kowacie Reeves Jr. (15 points) each drained three 3-pointers and Kyle Sturdivant added two for Georgia Tech, which shot a sizzling 44.8 percent from beyond the arc.

“I love our group. I think they’re starting to buy in,” Stoudamire said, per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “I think that they see that the things that we do work when we execute it and when we play together.”

Tyzhaun Claude contributed 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Yellow Jackets.

“That’s what I kind of hang my hat on, no matter what,” Claude said of his rebounds, per the Atlanta Journal Constitution. “Offensively, if I’m making shots or missing shots, I know I can impact the game by rebounding. Every game, every practice that’s what I’m going to do for my team — make sure we get extra possessions to help us win.”

Howard (1-0), like Georgia Tech, also benefited from a strong shooting performance from 3-point range to win its season opener.

Bryce Harris made 8 of 12 shots from the floor and all seven from the foul line to finish with 23 points in the Bison’s 92-80 victory over Hampton on Monday. Marcus Dockery drained five 3-pointers to highlight his 21-point performance.

Howard shot 56.3 percent from the floor and 50.0 percent from 3-point range.

“I think success is contagious,” Bison coach Kenneth Blakeney told WUSA9 recently. “Hopefully, it becomes sustainable.”
