Stanford Visits Georgia Tech in First Meeting Since 2000
For the first time in over two decades, Georgia Tech and Stanford will clash on the hardwood when they meet Wednesday night in Atlanta for an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup.
Georgia Tech Battling Through Injuries
The Yellow Jackets (11-13, 5-8 ACC) are coming off a 75-61 road loss to Virginia, snapping their momentum from upset wins over then-No. 21 Louisville and Clemson earlier this month.
With a season plagued by injuries, Georgia Tech was forced to roll out a six-man rotation against the Cavaliers. Second-leading scorer Javian McCollum (12.2 ppg), Kowacie Reeves Jr., and Luke O’Brien were all sidelined.

“He’s just been doing a great job,” Yellow Jackets coach Damon Stoudamire said of sophomore guard Naithan George, who has stepped up in their absence. “He’s been facilitating the ball at his normal pace, but the way he’s been shooting is great. He has to continue to play that way for us to be successful.”
George has been on fire lately, averaging 20.8 points and 6.5 assists over the past four games. Meanwhile, leading scorer Lance Terry (14.9 ppg) played through a wrist injury but was held scoreless against Virginia. Georgia Tech will need a bounce-back effort from him and continued production from Baye Ndongo (12.0 ppg, 7.8 rpg) to compete against Stanford.
Stanford Eyeing NCAA Tournament Push
Stanford (16-8, 8-5 ACC) has exceeded expectations in its first season in the ACC and is looking to strengthen its NCAA Tournament resume. The Cardinal have won five of their last seven games and will face No. 3 Duke on Saturday.
On Saturday, Stanford pulled out a 74-73 home victory over NC State, despite being without injured guards Jaylen Blakes and Benny Gealer. Maxime Raynaud carried the load with 25 points and 12 rebounds, solidifying his place as the ACC’s leading scorer (20.4 ppg) and rebounder (11.7 rpg).
“I thought it was a tremendous program win for us,” Stanford coach Kyle Smith said. “Without Jaylen and Benny, we were really short on ball-handling. NC State understood that and brought pressure, and we weathered it.”
Blakes (14.6 ppg) is Stanford’s second-leading scorer, while Gealer adds 7.8 points per game. Both are expected to return to action on Wednesday.
Can Georgia Tech Overcome the Odds?
Georgia Tech is dealing with a short bench, while Stanford is surging toward the postseason. Will the Yellow Jackets pull off another upset at home, or will the Cardinal continue their strong push for an NCAA Tournament berth?
