Marquette Seeks Consistency from Deep Against Seton Hall
No. 16 Marquette returns to action on Tuesday night, hoping to shake off its recent 3-point shooting struggles when it hosts Seton Hall in Milwaukee.
The Golden Eagles (19-6, 10-4 Big East) snapped a three-game losing streak with a 68-58 win over DePaul on Feb. 11 but still struggled from beyond the arc. Despite the victory, Marquette shot just 16 percent from 3-point range, continuing a four-game slump in which the team has hit only 27.8 percent (30-for-108) from deep.
“We all believe in the guy rising up to shoot it,” Marquette coach Shaka Smart said. “And I think that over time those guys are going to make shots.”
Smart will be banking on a return to form from key shooters like Kam Jones, David Joplin, Ben Gold, and Royce Parham, all of whom struggled from long range against DePaul.
Marquette is 12-2 at home this season and will face a Seton Hall squad that has yet to win a road game (0-8).

The Pirates (7-18, 2-12 Big East) pulled off the biggest upset of their season on Saturday, shocking two-time defending national champion UConn 69-68 in overtime.
Isaiah Coleman led the way with 23 points, while Scotty Middleton tipped in his own miss with three seconds left in OT to seal the win.
“It was a crazy Euro-step,” Seton Hall coach Shaheen Holloway said about Middleton’s game-winner. “One of the best things about Scotty is his desire to play basketball. He just cares about winning and playing basketball.”
