After Splitting Big Ten Season Games, No. 20 Purdue, No. 22 Michigan Meet Again

A rubber match between No. 20 Purdue and No. 22 Michigan is set for Friday in the Big Ten tournament quarterfinals, with both teams seeking a much-needed win to boost their NCAA Tournament momentum.

Michigan Looks to Snap Losing Streak

Michigan (22-9) stumbled down the stretch, losing four of its last six games, including its final three in a row. The Wolverines’ once-potent offense, which averaged 78.5 points per game in the regular season, has struggled, failing to reach 75 points in each of their last three contests.

Head coach Dusty May believes a resurgence from guard Tre Donaldson is key to getting Michigan back on track.

“We need Tre to play like Tre if we’re going to be at our best,” May said. “If you look at our most productive games … it’s when Tre was running our team at a high level.”

Donaldson had been a consistent scoring threat earlier in the season but has hit a slump, scoring in double figures just twice in Michigan’s last seven games. He still plays a crucial role alongside 7-footers Danny Wolf (12.9 ppg) and Vladislav Goldin (16.7 ppg), who anchor the Wolverines’ frontcourt.

Purdue Riding Momentum After USC Win

Purdue (22-10) rallied late in its second-round win over USC on Thursday, closing the game on an 11-4 run to secure a 76-71 victory.

Trey Kaufman-Renn was dominant once again, pouring in 30 points. The Boilermakers also got a strong effort from Camden Heide, who contributed nine points and 11 rebounds.

“To have somebody really step it up, give us it all, defend and rebound, that’s what we need,” Kaufman-Renn said of Heide. “We’re going to need him to continue doing that.”

Purdue will be looking for a faster start after falling behind by 10 against USC.
