North Carolina Faces Pitt Again in Search of ‘Full Potential’
The North Carolina Tar Heels are looking for answers as they prepare to host the Pitt Panthers on Saturday in Chapel Hill, N.C. With both teams struggling in ACC play, this matchup presents an opportunity for one of them to regain momentum.
Can UNC Clean Up Its Turnovers?
North Carolina (13-10, 6-5 ACC) has dropped four of its last five games, and head coach Hubert Davis has identified turnovers as a major issue.

Over their last two games—both losses—the Tar Heels have committed 28 turnovers, leading to 41 points for their opponents. Meanwhile, UNC has managed just 11 points off 14 takeaways.
“Unforced turnovers is something that we’ve had a problem with,” Davis said. “Against good teams, that’s just not going to work.”
UNC has a shot at redemption against Pitt (14-8, 5-6 ACC), which handed them a 73-65 loss on Jan. 28 by closing the game on a 9-0 run and shutting out the Tar Heels over the final three minutes.
Pitt Searching for a Spark
The Panthers have also struggled recently, losing six of their last eight games. Their most recent defeat was a 73-57 home loss to Virginia, where they managed just 19 first-half points— their lowest output of the season.
“I have to do a better job with this team,” Pitt coach Jeff Capel said. “I still think we can be better, but it starts with me.”
Jaland Lowe has been a bright spot for Pitt, averaging 17.0 points and 5.5 assists per game. He posted 18 points and seven assists in Pitt’s win over UNC last month and will be a key factor again on Saturday.
Who Will Step Up for UNC?
RJ Davis leads the Tar Heels with 17.3 points per game, but UNC needs more consistency from freshman Ian Jackson. After averaging nearly 23 points over a seven-game stretch, Jackson has reached double digits just once in the past five contests.
“The one encouraging thing for me is that I don’t think we’ve reached our full potential,” Hubert Davis said. “We have time and we have opportunity to move forward to be able to do that.”
Can North Carolina Get Back on Track?
Both teams are desperate for a win, making this a crucial battle in the ACC standings. Will UNC clean up its mistakes and defend its home court, or will Pitt earn its fourth straight victory in Chapel Hill?
