Georgia Tech Seeks Season Sweep Against Notre Dame in ACC Matchup
Georgia Tech will aim for a second win over Notre Dame this season when the Yellow Jackets visit the Fighting Irish on Tuesday night in South Bend, Ind. Both teams are striving to build rare winning streaks in the midst of inconsistent campaigns.
Notre Dame Eyes Momentum
Notre Dame (9-10, 3-5 ACC) enters the game with two wins in its past three outings following a four-game losing streak. The Fighting Irish last won consecutive games in December, but they are coming off an impressive 74-59 road victory over Virginia on Saturday.
Markus Burton led Notre Dame with 21 points, shooting 7-of-14 from the field and 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. The team finished 12-of-23 from 3-point range, an area where coach Micah Shrewsberry believes they excel.
“We’re a really good 3-point shooting team,” Shrewsberry said. “We just need to shoot more of them. We need to find ways to get more attempts.”
Notre Dame ranks third in the ACC in 3-point shooting at 37.6 percent this season. Burton leads the team in scoring with 19.9 points per game, supported by Tae Davis (16.4) and Braeden Shrewsberry (14.7).
Georgia Tech Battling Injuries
Georgia Tech (9-11, 3-6 ACC) ended a season-worst four-game losing streak with a 71-64 victory over Virginia Tech on Wednesday. Despite ongoing injury challenges, the Yellow Jackets continue to show resilience.
The team has been without Kowacie Reeves Jr. (9.3 points per game) since November and Luke O’Brien (6.4 ppg) since December. Lance Terry, Georgia Tech’s leading scorer at 15.8 points per game, has missed two of the last three games due to a hand injury and the flu.
Despite the setbacks, head coach Damon Stoudamire remains optimistic.
“This has been a weird year, but for me it’s been a fun one,” Stoudamire said. “You’re just trying to get creative to manage games and stay in games. But if we’re in striking distance at the end, I think we can win with six, seven guys. I think we’ve got enough. I really do.”
Javian McCollum contributes 13.1 points per game, while Baye Ndongo averages 11.7 points and 7.5 rebounds, providing additional firepower for Georgia Tech.
Previous Meeting
Georgia Tech defeated Notre Dame 86-75 on Dec. 31 in their first matchup of the season. The Yellow Jackets hope to secure a season sweep and their third winning streak of the campaign.
Both teams are looking to bolster their ACC standings and improve their NCAA Tournament resumes, making Tuesday’s game a crucial opportunity for both sides.
