The Lean

The Pirates come in as the underdog at +9.5, making them our top choice on the point spread. We not only expect them to cover the spread but also believe they have a strong chance of winning the game outright, especially if you’re aiming for a higher moneyline payout.

Right now, the over/under line for the game is sitting at 133.5 and given that our model is projecting 145 points between the teams, we like the over.

Creighton Looks to Rebound Against Struggling Seton Hall in Big East Matchup

Creighton enters the final week of the regular season with plenty to play for, but first, it must shake off a lopsided 83-61 loss to Xavier when it visits Seton Hall on Tuesday night in Newark, New Jersey.

The Bluejays (20-9, 13-5 Big East) are currently tied with No. 20 Marquette for second place in the conference, but with a more favorable remaining schedule, they have a chance to lock in a high seed for the Big East Tournament.

Meanwhile, Seton Hall (7-22, 2-16 Big East) is at the bottom of the conference standings, dealing with injuries, inexperience, and offensive struggles that have plagued them all season.

Creighton Looking to Rebound After Blowout Loss

Saturday’s 83-61 loss to Xavier was Creighton’s worst defeat since December, as the Musketeers dominated both ends of the floor.

“We haven’t been beaten like this in a long time,” Creighton coach Greg McDermott said. “Nobody has really done that to our defense all year.”

Despite the loss, Creighton is still in a strong position for the NCAA Tournament and has a great opportunity to get back on track against a struggling Seton Hall team.

In their first meeting on Jan. 25, Creighton crushed Seton Hall 79-54, holding the Pirates to just 20 second-half points.

  • Ryan Kalkbrenner dominated in that game, shooting 9-for-10 from the field for 23 points.
  • Steven Ashworth added 17 points, including five three-pointers and nine assists.

Kalkbrenner has been a consistent force, scoring at least 10 points and recording a block in 14 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the nation.

Seton Hall Struggling to Find Consistency

Seton Hall’s season has been defined by injuries and lack of roster continuity, leaving head coach Shaheen Holloway frustrated.

“We never really had a full roster where the guys could play together — someone was always out,” Holloway said. “I’m just upset that we didn’t have a chance to really jell like we could have. I think we could have had a better season than what we’re having right now.”

The Pirates have lost four straight games and 13 of their last 14, falling to the bottom of the Big East standings alongside DePaul.

Scoring has been a major issue, as Seton Hall ranks third-worst in the nation in points per game (62.2 PPG).

The team’s only consistent offensive threats are:

  • Isaiah Coleman (15.4 PPG) – The sophomore guard leads the team in scoring, but lacks help around him.
  • Dylan Addae-Wusu (10.5 PPG) – The only other active Seton Hall player averaging double figures.
  • Chaunce Jenkins (12.1 PPG) has missed the last 11 games with a knee injury, further depleting Seton Hall’s offensive depth.

Seton Hall’s offensive struggles make it difficult to keep up with high-scoring teams like Creighton, especially when the Pirates lack a reliable three-point shooting threat.

Key Matchups to Watch

  • Ryan Kalkbrenner vs. Seton Hall’s Frontcourt – Kalkbrenner was unstoppable in the first meeting, and if Seton Hall can’t contain him, it could be another long night for the Pirates.
  • Creighton’s Perimeter Shooting vs. Seton Hall’s Defense – The Bluejays have hit a three-pointer in 1,049 consecutive games. If they find their rhythm from deep, they could put this game away early.
  • Seton Hall’s Energy vs. Creighton’s Focus – Seton Hall has nothing to lose, while Creighton must stay focused to avoid another sloppy performance like the Xavier game.

Who Has the Edge?

Creighton is the clear favorite and has everything to play for, while Seton Hall is just trying to finish the season without further embarrassment.

The Bluejays’ size, shooting, and defense should be too much for the Pirates to handle, but if Seton Hall can slow the game down and keep Creighton’s offense in check, they might be able to make it competitive for a half.

Will Creighton get back on track and solidify its spot near the top of the Big East, or can Seton Hall play spoiler at home? Tuesday night’s matchup will determine if the Bluejays are ready for the postseason push.
