No. 8 Texas A&M Welcomes Struggling Georgia in SEC Matchup
Texas A&M is on a roll, and the Aggies (18-5, 7-3 SEC) will look to keep their momentum going when they host Georgia (16-8, 4-7 SEC) on Tuesday night in College Station. While Texas A&M is on a three-game win streak, Georgia is looking to bounce back from a tough loss as it tries to avoid another late-season slide.
Texas A&M Keeps Finding Ways to Win
The Aggies are one of the hottest teams in the SEC, winning five of their last six games—all decided by seven points or fewer. Their latest victory was a dramatic 67-64 road win over then-No. 15 Missouri, sealed by Wade Taylor IV’s clutch 3-pointer with 2.1 seconds left.
Taylor, who leads Texas A&M with 15.1 points and 4.2 assists per game, has battled injuries this season but remains the team’s go-to playmaker.
“There’s nothing that he will ever do on the court that surprises me,” Aggies coach Buzz Williams said. “Everyone in this organization has great faith in him regardless of what his stats are entering the game. He’s fearless with the appropriate amount of humility.”
Other key contributors:
- Pharrel Payne (20 points vs. Missouri) provides a strong inside presence and averages 9.4 PPG.
- Zhuric Phelps adds 14.7 PPG, making him another reliable scorer.
- The Aggies are 10-1 at home this season, adding to their advantage.
Georgia Struggling, But Still Fighting
Georgia has lost six of its last eight games, including a tough 76-75 home loss to No. 22 Mississippi State on Saturday. The Bulldogs had a chance to win in the final seconds, but Silas Demary Jr. turned the ball over with two seconds left, dropping them to 3-7 against ranked teams.
Despite the loss, Demary had a career night, leading Georgia with 23 points.
With a brutal SEC schedule ahead, White knows there’s no time to dwell on the past.
“We can’t have an hourlong film session on this game because it’s on to the next one,” he said. “This is a great opportunity for us.”
Georgia’s top contributors:
- Asa Newell leads the team with 15.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.
- Demary Jr. is averaging 11.5 PPG and looks to build off his big performance.
- Dakota Leffew adds 10.7 PPG as a key scoring option.
Who Has the Edge?
With Texas A&M thriving in close games and Georgia struggling to finish against top teams, the Aggies look to have the upper hand—especially at home. However, if Georgia can tighten up its defense and limit turnovers, it has the offensive firepower to pull off an upset.
Will Texas A&M continue its push for a top SEC finish, or can Georgia find a way to turn its season around? The answer unfolds Tuesday night in College Station.
