Vanderbilt Hoping for Home Spark Against Texas
The Vanderbilt Commodores return home on Saturday, looking to break out of a recent slump when they take on the Texas Longhorns in a Southeastern Conference showdown in Nashville, Tenn.
Can Vanderbilt Bounce Back at Home?
Vanderbilt (16-6, 4-5 SEC) has hit a rough patch, losing three of its last four games, including back-to-back road defeats against Oklahoma and No. 6 Florida. The Commodores briefly led Florida in the second half on Tuesday before faltering down the stretch in an 86-75 loss.

Jason Edwards led Vanderbilt with 20 points, while Jaylen Carey (15 points), Devin McGlockton (14 points), and MJ Collins Jr. (11 points) all contributed. However, defensive struggles in the second half proved costly.
“We’ve got to figure out a better way to get stops in the second half,” Vanderbilt coach Mark Byington said. “We’re fighting, we’re battling. The guys’ effort is good, but we’ve got to come up with something.”
Edwards leads the Commodores with 17.6 points per game, while McGlockton provides 11.5 points and a team-best 7.9 rebounds per contest.
Texas Looking to Regain Consistency
Texas (15-8, 4-6 SEC) is also searching for answers after a 78-70 home loss to Arkansas on Wednesday. The Longhorns struggled offensively, shooting just 34.4% from the field and scoring only 24 points in the first half.
Tre Johnson carried the offense with 25 points, while Arthur Kaluma posted a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Kadin Shedrick added 10 points, but Texas never found its rhythm.
“Shots are not falling, but we still have to be able to play physical,” Texas coach Rodney Terry said. “We’ve got to regroup and have a short turnaround against a really good Vanderbilt team on their home court.”
Johnson leads the SEC in scoring at 19.2 points per game, while Kaluma averages 8.2 rebounds and has recorded six double-doubles this season.
Who Will Get Back on Track?
Both teams are looking to shake off recent struggles and build momentum heading into the final stretch of the SEC season. Will Vanderbilt rediscover its winning form at home, or can Texas snap out of its shooting woes and grab a crucial road victory?
