Georgia Tech Takes Aim at Virginia with Both Teams Suddenly Hot
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets looked like an afterthought in the ACC race, but a pair of upset wins has reignited their season. Now, they face a surging Virginia Cavaliers squad on Saturday in Charlottesville, Va.
Can Georgia Tech Keep Its Streak Alive?
The Yellow Jackets (11-12, 5-7 ACC) were struggling at the end of January, but once the calendar flipped, so did their fortunes. They stunned then-No. 21 Louisville 77-70 and followed that up with a triple-overtime thriller, taking down Clemson 89-86.

This turnaround has come despite injuries to key players, including Kowacie Reeves, who started 38 straight games before going down in November. Against Louisville, Georgia Tech used just six players, and four played at least 49 minutes in the Clemson victory.
“Injuries aside, we’ve got five or six players, seven players that I feel like can play with anybody,” Yellow Jackets coach Damon Stoudamire said.
Naithan George has been a standout, totaling 43 points and 16 assists over the last two games, while Baye Ndongo has dominated inside with 30 points and 24 rebounds. Lance Terry has also stepped up, adding 35 points in the recent stretch.
Virginia Finding Its Groove
Virginia (11-12, 4-8 ACC) is also on an upward trajectory, notching its best ACC win of the season with a 73-57 road victory over Pitt. Freshman Dai Dai Ames exploded for a career-high 27 points on 11-of-16 shooting.
“He got really good looks,” Virginia interim coach Ron Sanchez said. “He finished at the rim well but he also shared the ball.”
After enduring a five-game losing streak in January, the Cavaliers have won three of their last five, largely due to their improved three-point shooting. Virginia has hit 50 of its last 112 attempts from beyond the arc (44.6%), with Isaac McKneely (20 of 46), Taine Murray (8 of 11), and Andrew Rohde (8 of 15) leading the way.
Rohde has also impressed as a first-time point guard, tallying 24 assists with just one turnover in this recent stretch.
Can Georgia Tech End Its Losing Streak Against Virginia?
Virginia has dominated this matchup in recent years, winning 12 straight meetings and 10 in a row at home against Georgia Tech. With both teams heating up, this matchup could be pivotal in determining their postseason hopes.
