On Friday, November 29, the NFL returns to the Friday after Thanksgiving for the second annual Black Friday Football game. Last year, it was the Miami Dolphins vs. New York Jets kicking off the NFL’s inaugural Black Friday game. This year, we’ll see an AFC West grudge match as the Las Vegas Raiders head to Arrowhead Stadium to battle the Kansas City Chiefs.
Before you outright dismiss the Raiders in this contest, just think back to last year when Las Vegas played Scrooge and pulled off a shocking holiday upset by defeating the Chiefs on Christmas Day. Is there a better team to play on Black Friday than the Silver and Black (Raiders)?
Black Friday football is the NFL’s expansion into taking over the entire Holiday weekend. They already feature three games on Thanksgiving the day prior, and will then follow up Black Friday with 11 games on Sunday and one game on Monday.
Let’s also not overlook the fact that the NFL snuck a family feud game in on the week of Thanksgiving as the Harbaugh brothers will face off in Week 12’s Monday Night Football game.

2023 Black Friday Football Result
The AFC East was in the spotlight on Black Friday as the New York Jets hosted their division rival the Miami Dolphins. Unfortunately, the Jets were mired in an awful season after losing starting QB Aaron Rodgers to a season-ending injury in Week 1.
The Dolphins rolled into MetLife Stadium and destroyed the Jets 34-13. The Jets rolled out a third QB of the year in this matchup, and it was a dreadful result. Although New York boasted of one of the best defenses in the league, they could not overcome a high-school caliber offense.
2024 Black Friday Football Game Preview
Since this is only the second time that the NFL has played on Black Friday, neither of these teams have appeared in a Black Friday football game. However, both teams have played on Thanksgiving.
The Kansas City Chiefs have played 10 times on Thanksgiving and are 5-5. They were part of the inaugural primetime Thanksgiving game in 2006, against the Broncos. The Las Vegas Raiders are 4-4 on Thanksgiving and last appeared on Turkey Day in 2021, when they beat the Cowboys in OT by the score of 36-33.
These bitter rivals have played against each other 130 times coming into the season. However, they will play in Week 8 at Las Vegas. Since that game has not happened yet, we can’t use that result in the following series trends.
These two franchises have played against each other since 1960, when they both were in the AFL. However, the rivalry didn’t intensify until the late 1960s, and it also spilled over into Major League Baseball as well. Yet, the Chiefs beat the Raiders in consecutive Playoffs to go the Super Bowl in the late 1960s.
Throughout the last six-decades, these teams have had some memorable moments in their rivalry. From infamous bench-clearing brawls to players like Marcus Allen playing for both teams, the intensity of this rivalry makes it one of the best in the league. Just one more reason why a Black Friday football game makes sense for these eternal rivals.
The Chiefs hold the series advantage with a 73-55-2 record. Furthermore, Kansas City has won 16 of the last 20 head-to-head meetings. The Raiders’ win on Christmas Day last year, snapped a six-game losing streak to the Chiefs. Kansas City is 38-26-1 in home games against Las Vegas, which includes going 9-2 in their last 11 meetings at Arrowhead Stadium.
