Flames Look to Regroup Against League-Worst Sharks
The Calgary Flames are desperate for a turnaround as they return from the 4 Nations Face-Off break, hosting the struggling San Jose Sharks on Sunday night.
Despite defying early-season predictions and staying in the playoff mix, the Flames stumbled into the break with a three-game losing streak and have just two wins in their last eight games (2-5-1). Their most frustrating loss came Feb. 8 against Seattle, where they blew a two-goal lead in the final minutes before falling 3-2 in overtime.

Now three points out of a playoff spot, Calgary faces a make-or-break stretch to keep its postseason hopes alive. However, head coach Ryan Huska wants his team focused on the present.
“The only message we have is for Sunday night,” Huska said. “We’ve lost a few in a row at home, and we want to make sure we play our best game of the year.”
Key Flames Players Returning
Calgary will get a much-needed boost with defenseman Kevin Bahl and forward Connor Zary expected to return from injury.
“Both of them being out left a noticeable hole in our lineup,” said Blake Coleman. “Connor and I had great chemistry earlier in the season, and we created a lot of offense together.”
Sharks Continue to Struggle
While the Flames have had their share of struggles, the Sharks’ season has been even worse. San Jose sits last in the NHL standings, winless in four straight games, and with just one win in their last 11 (1-9-1). Their last outing? A brutal 8-3 loss to Dallas on Feb. 8.
Though expectations were low this season, head coach Ryan Warsofsky wants his team to finish strong.
“We’ve got 25 games to push and compete,” Warsofsky said. “In past years, it felt like guys were just playing out the schedule, but we’re here to fight.”
San Jose, now on a seven-game road trip, should see forwards Alexander Wennberg and Nico Sturm return from injury.

Trade Deadline Changes Loom for San Jose
As the March 7 trade deadline approaches, the Sharks are in full sell mode. They’ve already traded Cody Ceci and Mikael Granlund—who led the team with 45 points—for draft picks. More moves are likely, with Luke Kunin, Jan Rutta, and both goalies (Vitek Vanecek & Alexandar Georgiev) on the trade block.
Despite all the uncertainty, veteran Tyler Toffoli wants the team to stay focused.
“We’re not here to mess around,” Toffoli said. “We’ve said it all year—our game needs consistency, and it starts in practice.”
Must-Win for Calgary
With the playoffs slipping out of reach, the Flames can’t afford to drop points against a struggling team like San Jose. Will Calgary take advantage, or can the Sharks pull off an upset?
